Does anyone take vitamin K2 supplements? There are claims that it reduces calcium deposits in arteries. If so, would it cause problems for PV patients?
vitamin K2: Does anyone take vitamin K... - MPN Voice
vitamin K2
I take vitamin D with K2 and was told that it’s essential to take it with K2 for that reason
Vitamin K2, D3, and Magnesium should all be taken together for them to work properly. I currently take all three and haven't noticed any issues. I have ET. Well actually there is one thing I noticed...my blood pressure is getting lower, which is a good thing. I don't know if it's related to those supplements but it would make sense that Vitamin k2 lowered my blood pressure.
Hi thanks for information . Did you have to inform your Heamatoligost you were taking this ?
No problem. I didn't tell my hematologist. I just felt like he would have shrugged.
Ok I’m already taking D3 and Magnesium so good tip to take K2 as I to have high blood pressure.
If you are taking vi k on its own its best to ask professional advice . Preferably from an alternative practitioner. Then let Heamatoligost know.
Hi. I swapped my Vit D3 to Vit D3 plus K2. I too had read that it made the VitD3 more effective in getting to where it’s supposed to be and therefore lessened the risk of calcium deposit build up in the arteries.
However since Vit K can be an issue for MPN patients I checked first with Prof Harrison before I made the swap. (I was also concerned about whether if I couldn’t take the K2, I should be taking D3 at all!) Prof gave me the go ahead.
I found the D3 / K2 vit combo much harder to get - many of the formulations had an excessively high D3 content - so watch out! HTH.
I have PV and have taken K2 for around ten years, that doesn’t mean it’s okay for everyone to take it of course, best check with your doc/Haem first.
I do - 2000 a day - and interestingly my coronary calcium score is zero, but I have ET, not PV
I thought you were suppose to avoid vit k if you have an mpn I have PV? I take caliD to protect my bones because I have to take predesalone as I have polymyalgia rhumatica. I've always avoided foods with high vit k because I thought it could increase the risk of clots? I was interested to read about magnisim as I'm thinking of starting a magnisim supplement because I suffer with awful leg and foot pain but I'm not sure what it's related to as pv can cause leg and foot pain but so can polymyalgia rhumatica and so can steroids and steroid withdrawal so I've given up on knowing what's causing the problems. Thanks everyone, I haven't been on the site for a while I've been trying to get this polymyalgia rhumatica under control and the steroids make me feel awful.
