Quote from article .... see penultimate sentence ....
“We are in a terrible, horrible situation in the world. We do have an intervention which does not have any side effects, even less than a placebo. There is one major exception: people on anti-clotting medication. It is completely safe in other people.
Hi Mal42,
As we are on blood thinners (warfarin or low does aspirin) taking vitamin K isn't an option.
That article seems to counteract previous findings in that blood clots seem to be a problem in many covid 19 patients on ventilators. If so, wouldn't taking vitamin k be the last thing you'd want to do as that'll make your blood likely to clot?
I've taken k2 for quite a while, used to eat natto, but was finding that hard going. Vits K1 and K2 are so different they should have different names. I'm on hydroxy which I don't regard as a blood thinner, is it? My understanding is that K2 removes calcium from the arteries and puts it in the bones, what's not to like? I wish there was research on all this. my count was 1600+ at diagnosis, only symptom mildly itchy legs. Jo
Apologies, I just reread my original post and realised it was misleading. I’ve therefore deleted it. Just to clarify ...
Vitamin K is red flagged because of it’s blood clotting properties. It is therefore counter productive for anyone requiring blood thinning medications. For this reason the bottom line message remains the same - you shouldn’t take Vitamin K if you are on Warfarin or other blood thinners.
I take vitamin K2, I researched it before starting and my assessment was that K2 is ok but was wary of taking K1 as it increases clotting, us with MPN's should be alert to that, best research it carefully, you can ask your haem but in my experience they are unlikely to know and if its something they don't know about the often just say no which may not be the best or correct answer, I have been taking it for 5 years and think its good for me, I have PV and on aspirin but not a blood thinner, best research it thoroughly before starting.
