Can I take Vit K2 or will it affect platelets???
I take visionace which is a multi vitamin. I was taking it before I was diagnosed with Calr ET.
It’s always best to discuss with your heamo before you take them as they could give s fakes blood reading
Hello there I am ET Carl positive and take a D3/K2 combo and have done so before and after my diagnosis three years ago. My platelets are 200 and my other bloods are holding up well.
Here is a good link for information. humann.com/nutrition/powerf...
Thank you for that link and I’ll information.
I think I’ll have to email my haemo as the link says it aids coagulation and clotting.
Obviously, platelets are the clotting part of the blood so I really don’t need more platelets.
Are you on medication?
My hemo-doc did a really great job of explaining coagulation by analogy. Platelets are like the bricks - von Willebrand Factors are like the mortar - need both to make a brick wall (blood clot). Of course it is a bit more complex than that, but it is a great analogy.
Having ET though means I don’t want my platelets built up.
So does vitamin K2 build up platelets?
I did a quick look at a few sources. It sounds like vit K can effect both platelet levels and the coagulation process (increasing both). I have never looked at this before so do not feel at all confident, but would advise caution regarding vit k if you have ET.
Hi. I had been taking a D3 K2 for a while as the K2 was supposed to make the D3 more bio available. I happened to mention it to my haematologist who didn’t want me taking K2 as it could interfere with platelet activity. I just have the D3 oral spray now (oral sprays producing more availability than tablets anyway.).
Get expert opinion since I was told my my hematologists, that I should not take Vit K that will affect my platelets since it is coagulant.
Wishing you well
I read years ago that k2 increased clotting so I stay away from it. Years ago my daughter made me a green smoothie and my stomach hurt all week. As it got worse, I went to the ER and I had a spike in my platelets.
