hello Chez1947, it would be best to ask your haematologist if you can take these so that he can advise you if there are any contra-indications to taking them. Best wishes, Maz

I take 50 to 60,000 IUs of vitamin D every week for six years now. I do not take the vitamin K2 because it can increase thrombocytes. I have ET. I do eat a bit of green salad and very little of anything that can raise the thrombocytes. Most importantly, is to have the vitamin D checked often in your blood test to see if you have a deficit. Anything under 50 is a deficit even though it’s in the normal range. Normal range is the average of the country or area where you live. And most people are deficit. It is optimal to keep vitamin D between 60 and 80 even 100 is OK. My personal experience was that most hematologist or any normal doctor don’t really know a lot about nutrition and vitamins; some do. If you can find a very good alternative, naturopath or functional doctor that could take care of you holistically in addition to the doctors you usually see, that would be amazing.

Agree with you. In my case, the higher vitamine D, the better my blood count. Another red flag is the microbiote.

I took intestinal bacteria 2x a day right after my diagnosis for about six months straight. I took Omni biotic 6 in powder form and put a portion into water and let it sit for 15 minutes before I drank it, so that the bacteria could multiply itself. Did the same thing at night always on an empty stomach.

After that I took a break for a month took it for a month took a break for a month, took it for a month, etc. Instead of that, I often do sauerkraut or kimchi then I do other kinds of gut bacteria. This is a really important part of my routine. I also take organic beef bones about 3 1/2 kg and I simmer them for 24 hours to get a really intensive broth. I filter everything and while the broth is boiling, I feel it into small jars that I seal and turn on their heads. A few minutes later, I turned them back. Let them cool and put them in the fridge. Usually about 10 jars. I put these in absolutely every food we eat. This way we get great collagen, magnesium and other wonderful things that help heal our gut.

there is so much we can do to get our body balanced in the long run! 😃

I am in the same way plus taking care of my circadian rhythm, exercise of physical force, meditation, fasting, earthing, a strict diet, etc, etc.

I do a 5 day water fast once a year. I’m never hungry because I’m in Ketosis with the AIP diet. From the sixth day on, my body gets a surge of energy, as if I’m 15 years younger. I should do this twice a year. Best during the equinox around March 21st and Sept 21st where the days and nights have the same length.

Grounding is also fabulous.

I definitely need to meditate more often! There are MPN patience who keep their thrombos down with meditation, but they meditate up to 3 hours a day!

Thank for sharing. I am interested in it. Do you recommend any book, link, names of experts, etc, etc? How do you learn?

are you sure K2 increases thrombocytes, I was under the impression it was the opposite, is it not K1 that increases clotting

that’s an interesting point. I have to research that again! But I do know when I eat too much broccoli or dark green salad my thrombocytes always go up. I’m not sure which, K-1 or K2 is in these.

Here’s a great chart.

both increase thrombocytes. K1 is in veggies, K2 in fermented and animal products. Most in the fermented foods! Look at cheese!

as Maz suggests definitely check with at least your Haem, you can also test for Vit D and Vit K2 possibly, you may not need Vit D. I have PV and take both, around 4500 of Vit D which keeps my level up at max. I avoid the direct sun so need Vit D supplemented. At the time I started these vits I researched it to death and was satisfied they were a good idea for ME.

However we are all different and what maybe good for me maybe bad for someone else. So wise not to do anything until you consult and research what is best for you.

I was diagnosed 3.5 years ago pv jak2 positive. I can only add what I am doing - daily 1000iu vit d and 81 mg aspirin every OTHER day (per my hematologist). I do not generally bruise at all. I personally believe a daily aspirin is unnecessary for most but that decision is between you and your doctor. My wife is pretty healthy and takes 81 mg aspirin due to cholesterol issues but recently cut back due to bruising. Again, it is an individual decision. Good luck with this issue.

I take vitamin d with k2 and was told that it’s essential to use k2 cause that way the calcium can go towards your bones. “Increasing one's intake of vitamin D without enough vitamin K can cause an increase in calcium levels without the ability to use it effectively, which raises the risk of depositing calcium in arteries and soft tissue”

I totally agree with you on this.

I don't know about K2 but I keep getting low Vit D. I was put on high strength supplements by my GP a couple of years ago and then reduced down to the 10ug for another year. I decided to ask to be checked again as I didn't want to be taking anything unnecessarily. Although I use factor 50 suncream all the time and cover my head, I read that suncream does not stop the absorbtion of Vit D. I am out with the dog every day and we've had a good summer so I was surprised to learn that even with the supplements I was still too low and I've been put on high strength again. ( I did check this with the Haematologist too first). I'm puzzled why I am so low, I mean I know most people are low but this was really low - after 3 years of supplements and sunshine! Could it have something to do with the PV?
