So is vitamin D a culprit for progression? Because my haematologist did not answer this question. I was so afraid that I stopped it altogether and I do need it as I am deficient.
Vitamin D: So is vitamin D a culprit for... - MPN Voice
Vitamin D
I think this Vit D scare story was based on one research article involving mice. IMO too early to panic/stop Vit D but I have reduced my intake. Swings and roundabouts, we do need Vit D.
I’m at Guys tomorrow so will ask the question.
Hi my haematologist (who is very good) told me to take Vit D as I was deficient last year, I still take it and she hasn’t said to stop.
Vitamin D deficiency can contribute to bone pain so Prof Harrison started me taking it for that reason. We seem to walk so many tightropes!
I’m also taking half the vitamin D dose recommended by consultant. I read the article on the mice as well. I did mention it to consultant but he didn’t have any views on it. I stop the dose during summer months and try to get outside in the sun, with factor 50 of course.
NB: if you use sun cream, your body can’t make its own vit D. 😕
“Sunscreen can reduce the sun's adverse effects, but there are concerns that it might inhibit the body's production of vitamin D. In a new study, however, investigators recorded an increase of vitamin D in participants during a week of cloudless weather, with very high UV index, even when sunscreens were used properly and prevented sunburn. “
My immunology consultant told me 2 years ago, I had vitamin d deficiency. I was advised to take 2 a day winter time and 1 during summer
I’ve been to 5 hemos. 2 of them had no idea about vit d or other vitamins or minerals. They stay quiet and in my opinion don’t count. The three others say no problem and I take 40,000 IUs weekly and 60,000 once a month. I need this amount to stay in the optimal zone. I take lots of other stuff too. You must only be careful not to take any supplements that are antioxidant too close to your meds. My Anagrelide (ie) has a 1/2 life of 1.3 hours, therefore I take my vit c etc at least 3 hours later and 3 hours before my next dosage.
I’ve been taking this amount of D for 20 months and I’m fine. 😁 Anag
Hi, I agree with others who say vit D is not absorbed when wearing sun cream. Research has shown that rickets is making a comeback because parents are using suncream on children. It’s a balance for us. I walk my dogs for approx 40 a day in the morning. Although I haven’t been tested I think this might be enough to ward off a lack of it. I’ve been laid up recovering from a heel op these last few weeks so a good opportunity to request a test when I go for my next appointment.
