Serious Illness Cover (Ireland)

Hi I have been diagnosed very recently with ET + Calr.

I have serious illness cover and I’m wondering if anyone in Ireland has made a claim ? Or if it something I should claim. Or have things changed - as there appears to be much confusion around it- My policy states Cancer - less advanced cases.

jeepers if there’s a possible payout to take the sting out of this I’d be happy to apply.

Many thanks

Lil 🙂

lil,

The equivalent in the Uk is I believe called Critical illness.

You should definitely claim.

Policies here pay out , usually without quibble as Et is now formally classed as a cancer.

This wasn’t always the case so it might be your specific policy excludes it if it is older.

If they resist you should keep pushing. A claim could be life changing.

Also note your policy may require you to lodge a claim very quickly after diagnosis, some times within just a few months so I’d do it now.

You should also check if your employers carry any insurance for you that might payout.

What do you have to lose in claiming?

Hello 👋🏼

We share the same diagnosis, I’m also ET Cal-R and I was successful in my critical illness claim in the U.K 4 years ago. I was with Aviva. The process was straightforward and I was paid out without a quibble. Of course it was 4 years ago and different companies may have different restrictions but it’s definitely worth investigating. Good luck 🤞🏼 Remember to post with updates. I only thought to claim because I saw people on this forum had been successful. I really hope you are successful in your claim x

I would apply for it. I had critical illness cover and was paid based on it being defined as cancer. It may need a few forms and a statement from tou4 consultant but do it.

We had critical illness cover in the UK and our insurance paid out. At first when I rang up they refused me, but after doing research and joining this group I found out that the blood cancers had been regrouped and neuroplasms are new growth there for the critical illness policy covered this .

Update!!! - My serious illness/ critical illness has been approved with Zurich - it was a bit slow ( admin/ Staffing on their side) but there was no issue of any sort and was very straightforward - full payout within days. It definitely has helped take the sting out of this diagnosis. 🙂
