Hi I have myeloproliferative neoplasm, has anyone successfully claim on their critical illness cover with legal and general company , as I’m having difficulty with understanding the term and conditions on my policy and don’t want to ring them and open a can of worms until I know for sure

I honestly can't recall who mine was with now, but I am absolutely certain the a MF/PV/ET diagnosis will be covered by L&G.
Most Insurers (provided its not been excluded as a pre existing or anything) that come under the ABI umbrella will cover the same conditions, which definately includes L&G.
There is no can of worms you can open by making a claim. Even if you aren't covered, which I doubt, they can only refuse to pay out. But I really don't see that being the case.
The only way I can see a refusal is if you the policy was incepted 'after' the commencment of investigations into the condition, provided it was incepted before you even knew you had something going on then I dont see you having a problem.
I know some people have had issues, but can only say my experience was really positive. When I called them up the lady I spoke to was sympathetic, polite and very helpful.
It didnt even take that long to process.
I get that insurance companies get a bad rep sometimes, but in general if you are covered you are covered, L&G are a decent insurance company.
I hope your husband gets the treatment he needs to feel better and that the CI claim process proceeds ok. Many of us have made successful claims, so I will keep my fingers crossed for you. Wishing you both well.
I was with Aviva, I put a claim in a few years back and they said it wasn’t covered, I then saw on here that the laws have changed and tried again the other month and had a payout within couple of weeks
No fuss and a backdated pay out also from the diagnosis
I would suggest just putting in a claim and see if they ask questions, if they do look into it then.
Hope this helps otherwise I have seen a link on the site where someone has had a insurance company amendment pdf to show people with a blood cancer are now covered
Thanks for replying , that’s made me feel more confident about applying now , I’m speaking with my consultant on Wednesday, so maybe I try and apply for it
Hi there, I decided to claim on my L&G critical insurance last year after years of thinking about doing it. Really thought it wouldn’t pay out as I don’t feel I have symptoms that affect me particularly. I took the insurance out in 2003 & was diagnosed with ET 2 years later after a bone marrow aspiration & been on meds ever since.
L&G were lovely on the phone, they sent me a form to give permission to discuss the diagnosis with my consultant & GP. Didn’t ask anything about how it affects my daily life or symptoms, apart from signing the form they do the rest.
They kept updating me when it started to drag on for a few months then I got the call 3 months later to say they were paying out.
Received the critical illness money plus the backdated payments I had made since 2005.
Nice feeling and good company to deal with. Definitely go for it. I hope that helps.
I to have had a successful claim. Mine was with Aviva. Please don’t concern yourself with opening a can of worms. There’s no reason why you won’t be successful. I remember feeling nervous of the outcome but the process was really quite easy. My understanding is that at the beginning of lockdown the process slowed somewhat but hopefully things should be better now.
Aviva paid ours out for hubby. I applied within a few weeks of diagnosis as it was clear symptoms would persist as they weren't putting him on any treatment other than aspirin & he was struggling with the fatigue. Aviva only asked for us to complete a very basic form & the consultant had to fill a form in as well which they dealt with completely. Paid out within a few months & has made a massive difference to our lives so please don't worry about opening a can of worms. It's the reason we all take out such insurance, in case you need it. I've now got my own cover in case I have anything as I'm the main earner & we know it would be invaluable if the worst occured again. Good luck x
Hi I didn't have a separate Critical Illness Plan when I was diagnosed so I thought that this wasn't relevant to me.Earlier this year I got a statement from the Mortgage Endowment company (Prudential) which mentioned a critical illness cover but that claims had to be made within three months of diagnosis.
I was diagnosed about 2 years ago but thought I'd give it a try.
I made the application and a few months later (delay with getting medical reports) the company paid out - totally zero hassle and backdated the claim to date of diagnosis and reimbursed payments from that date.
If anyone has an endowment policy with their mortgage it could be worth checking if it includes Critical Illness Cover - I'm glad I did.
