Turmeric dose guidance

Hi, I have ET and I'm on low dose aspirin. My platelet count is steadily rising. Does anyone know what dose of turmeric I could take without affecting the aspirin? Many thanks.

I take 81mg aspirin qd and a blend with Turmeric 250mg/CurcuWIN 300mg bid. This dose has not had any noticeable potentiation of the aspirin for me. Note that I also take two other anti-inflammatory agents, L-Glutathione and SPM Active. The combination is also not a problem.

Note also that I consult with an Integrative/Functional Medicine doctor regarding all supplements/medications. I assume that anything that is biologically active enough to help can also hurt and interact with things. My GP stated he did not have the expertise to advise on this issue and referred me to the Integrative/Functional Medicine doc.

Each formulation of turmeric can have different dosing recommendations. Suggest finding a knowledgeable medical professional to consult with. This is not all doctors. Many are unfamiliar with complimentary health supplements and are understandably reluctant to recommend something they are unfamiliar with. Integrative or Functional medicine doctors typically do have this expertise. So do some pharmacists.

Turmeric/Curcumin is a vital part of my care plan. It has proven to be a more effective anti-inflammatory than any NSAID I ever took and much safer for long-term use. Wishing you similar success with it.

Hunter5582 I am curious when you say, "It has proven to be a more effective anti-inflammatory than any NSAID", how do you measure your inflammation? I am guessing there are certain blood tests your doctors do on a regular basis? Can you share which ones they are and/or other ways you track your inflammation? Thanks.

We were not able to identify any inflammatory markers in blood tests that would work for me. The two larkes you tend to find reference to in the MPN literature are TNF-α and ESR. Both of these measures were within normal limits for me. I have shown elevation in transforming growth factor-β, IL-10, and cortisol. As much as I would like to be able to use an objective measure, none of these were determined to be suitable.

What I do use as my measure relates to why I started n curcumin in the first place. It was recommended by my rheumatologist to control osteoarthritis/tendonitis pain in my hands. I had tried several NSAIDs and Lyrica. They did not work. Curcumin significantly reduced the amount of pain I experience and restored function. Reduction in pain and restoration of function is a highly significant measure. There is not a blood test for this. It is a patient reported outcome. Patient reported outcomes are a critical part of both treatment and research. Objective reduction in lab values are meaningless if they do not result in a reduction in the symptoms that affect patients.

Hope that answers your question.

Hi Solstice2020. I take Curcumin C3 Complex 1000 mg with Bioperine 5mg twice a day. I also take 2 81 mg aspirin a day. I checked with several of my dr.s and all said it was okay. I don't take any other supplements. As many others on here state, always check with your medical team because everyone's situation is different, and we all may react differently to whatever we take. I know for me, I was concerned about a bleed - specifically brain bleeds. I'm trusting the dr.s on this one :-)
