This is definitely something to follow up on, both the headaches and the HTN. The HTN is unlikely yo be related to your thrombocytosis since platelets comprise such a small portion of your total blood volume. Erythrocytosis definitely increases blood pressure due to the hyperviscosity. My BP normalized once the erythrocytosis was under control.
HTN is a risk factor when you have a MPN so it is important to follow up on this promptly. Hopefully you already have a MPN Specialist with whom you can consult. Given the typical timeframe for getting an appointment, it would likely be best to start with seeing your GP.
Hunter thank you so much for your response, I do have an MPN consultant, but next appointment is not until February. I will contact my GP and see if I can get an appointment ASAP Thank you once again
The overproduction of red blood cells raises blood pressure. Both hyperviscosity (blood too thick) and high hematocrit levels have been found to interfere with the vasodilatory effects of nitric oxide.ashclinicalnews.org/viewpoi...
Hi I also ET Jak2 with hypertension pls see your GP as I had HPN number years before my diagnosis which was January I am was otherwise fit healthy non smoker vegetarian ( since child) but had a wee stroke this time last year I wrongly believed the HPN was stress related so did not take the HPN drug now I do and actively manage my HPN cut out salt etc drink little alcohol
I used to get one sided migraine zig zags stiff neck etc
Hopefully you are feeling ok and a merry Christmas from NZ
Hi from a very rainy UK. Thank you so much for your information, I was very lucky and managed to have a call from my GP after contacting the surgery, luckily open on a Sunday. I have to pick up meds in the morning from the pharmacy they are also arranging ECG and blood tests, so will let you know how everything goes. A very Merry Christmas to you too . Jan
Hi, I am on Clopidogrel and have been for 51/2 years.
Initially I was prescribed Aspirin but for some unknown reason I kept just falling to the ground, happened with no warning. Was naturally forbidden to drive for 3 months.
This is when I was prescribed Clopidogerel instead and I have no issues at all with it.
I hope this is the same for you. I have the same diagnosis but take 1500 hydroxycarbabmde daily now and have low red platelets.
Thanks you everyone for your information regarding BP My doctor has prescribed Amlodipine 5mg daily, I take my first one this evening. Checked with hematology and its fine to take with Hydroxycarmide, will let you know how things develop, until then, stay safe and have a wonderful Christmas. Jan 🙂
Thank you Jenny, I have just taken my first tablet. Its really comforting to meet someone on the same medication, hopefully it reduces my BP quickly. Have a lovely evening, and have a Merry Christmas 🤶
