Anagrelide and high blood pressure?

I’ve been on Anagrelide for a few years without any problems, but I’ve recently developed very high blood pressure and palpitations, my GP has prescribed tablets and statins, (to be collected tomorrow) I didn’t connect the problem with the Anagrelide until tonight and having checked the leaflet in the box it can be a side effect. I knew about the palpitations because I’d had the odd ones but nothing like the ones I’m getting now. Hopefully I can contact my specialist nurse or consultant on Monday. I also noticed it said anaemia was a side affect and I’ve been anaemic for some time, specialist nurse prescribed iron tablets for that. I currently take 4 capsules of Anagrelide per day, and am considering cutting them down over the weekend, my platelets have been in normal levels for around a year. It’s a bit scary having such high blood pressure and the doctor telling me I’m at very high risk of a stroke or heart attack as I’m overweight. I don’t think my GP considered the Anagrelide, or as he was a locum, didn’t read my notes. Anyone else had similar problems? I was previously on hydroxy for 3 years and then developed a reaction to that.

Oh dear Lizzie , sorry to hear that, you have been on Anag for some time without problems , It’s quite strange how we go along being ok on our meds and then the body doesn’t like them any more and lets you know about it. So really a time for a review.

As you say get on to them as soon as you can.

Hope you are sorted out soon.

Sandy.

Hi

I was on Anagrelide for about a year and my blood pressure went mad, I never had any blood pressure problems before I started on Anagrelide the put me on 24 hour monitor and the average was 250/160 (could have been really serious) I was given blood pressure tablets immediately and taken off Anagrelide and put on Interferon. This is working very well but to be honest the Anagrelide never felt right I had palpalations and fast hearthbeat even when sleeping. My platelets are now around 350 and recently reduced Interferon from 90 to 45 ml per week. Blood pressure stable. Im 59 at the time I was around 56/57 and in good health except for the ET.

No advise at all in Ireland around the Virus or is were at risk, I work in the health care area and still working so if anyone from Ireland has any advise it would be great

Thank you for replying. I’ve never had blood pressure problems before. I do have some stress (don’t we all, especially at the moment) I’m just hoping I can get hold of someone on Monday.
