Booster Vaccine

For those of you who maybe wondering about the booster vaccine, my hubby has been called up for his next Tuesday. He was to get the flu vaccine too, but that has been held up!

Importantly, he does not have an MPN, but he is on immunosuppressive medications. So hopefully, we who have MPNs will be hearing soon🤔

Good to know they are starting. I heard on the news that flu vaccines were being delayed by two weeks because of the shortage of lorry drivers holding up deliveries. I didn't catch whether that was nationwide.

Thanks. It wasn't clear whether we just sit and wait for the call, so this is reassuring.

Morning Mary. Good to hear but in my case God knows when that will be as my loal surgery as gone downhill since Covid even though my Gp as taken on another partner. I seem to be in the same boat as you in regards to being unhappy lately with both my Gp and Haematology unit. Oh well, can only hope things improve post Covid I say with bated breath. Hope you keeping well. Tina.xx🤗

I booked my flu vaccine on Friday last and they told me they had not yet heard from the government about booster COVID vaccination

Morning Jan, as you will see in my response to Mark382 below.

My hubby has been invited by text for his ‘booster’ vaccine on Tuesday. But like Mark, I had also heard that people with compromised immune systems would be offered a ‘third’ dose. So, I was surprised at the wording ‘booster’, it’s possible this is just a misuse of wording? More confusion!

Anyway, he had AstraZeneca the first time around, and has been informed this one will be Pfizer.

It seems that the press has been using ‘third’ and ‘booster’ so I guess they are interchangeable and ultimately mean the same thing. I’ve also read that they will be giving Pfizer or Moderna and I too have had 2 x AZ. There is some early suggestion that mixing the vaccines might give better protection but I think the jury is still out on that one officially. I also read that the priority will be different this time round with possibly the most vulnerable given top priority. In the case of MPNs that might be judged on treatment rather than the disease itself.

We all know that the press get things wrong at times so I guess all we can do is sit and wait to be called through official channels

I’m not so sure that ‘third’ and ‘booster’ are the same thing Jan, although both will have the same outcome. I heard on the news that a ‘third’ dose would be offered to the severely immunocompromised first.

However, I have absolutely no idea how the ‘booster’ will be implemented with regards to age, immune status etc.

Just really surprised by the word ‘booster’ on my hubby’s txt message. I don’t know anyone else who has been invited for a ‘third’ or ‘booster’ vaccine yet to compare with.

I've heard that the vaccine currently being given isn't the "booster " but a 3rd one to people with a reduced immunity due to medication. The "booster" will be given later. I guess unless you are on immunosuppressive drugs, we will have to wait. Assume it will be like the first round- Clinically Extremely Vulnerable will be in level 4.

Yes, that’s what I heard too, however, on the text he was sent it did say ‘booster,’ so who knows!

I think it's just terminology. But fingers crossed it is the booster for all of us. Blood Cancer UK, did post that this round includes blood cancers, but looking at list I can't see MPNs. Hope it goes well.

Morning Tina, hope you’re well.

My hubby has recently moved GP Practice. This new one is excellent, really on the ball with everything, they even answer their phones🤣.The only thing is, although it’s only five miles away, it’s in another county, which can have implications with regards to district nurse services etc. But for my hubby, it just had to be done. I haven’t moved yet, partly because of it being in another county - but also because it’s very rare that I go to the GPs.

Sorry to hear that you’re having difficulty with both haematology and GP services, it’s very unsettling.

Have a great day xx

I’m in the US and had my third shot 10 days ago. The next day I was nauseous, achy, and was running a fever. By the third day, I was feeling better. My partner had his on the same day and has had a headache every day since and even took off work a couple of days which is not like him at all. We both had Pfizer. Neither of us had such a bad reaction from the first 2 shots. Even with all that, I’m happy we had them because there have been many “breakthrough” cases here and we got a little nervous. So I feel now we are better protected.

I had essentially the same experience with my third Moderna shot (also in the US).
