Vaccine Booster

I went ahead with the 3rd dose of the Moderna vaccine as the PEG has been reducing the leukocytes, LYMPH (the anti-viral) in particular. I did have a reaction to the 3rd vaccine dose. After about 6 hours, my arm got real sore and I developed flu-like symptoms, including low-grade fever. It lasted about 24 hours then resolved. I am feeling fine today.

I figure that 24 hours of feeling fluey is much better than contracting COVID. I might opt to do some antibody testing in a bit. Have not really decided about the value of that.

All the best to all of you.

I received my booster yesterday. I’ve had similar symptoms, but like you said, 24-hour side effects are better than Covid.

Glad it was not too bad Hunter and that you will be protected from Covid.

Glad you got your booster. I'm waiting to be given a date for mine, and I'll be there quicker than a rat up a drain pipe! I had Pfizer 1&2 but latest info shows it to be degrading faster than AZ so I'm keen to get #3Cheers

Your reaction probably indicates that your immune system kicked in. I would bet that you have protection.

Thanks for this I'm going to make my appointment today and expect to have some reaction, but definitely agree -- better that than Covid.

Would it be feasible to get a different vaccine booster I had AZ, but caused a reaction with my Schwannomatosis, more schwannomas on my injection arm [left], Moderna for example, 2nd jab end of April? Your reaction is very like my first jab I had back in February, the second was a bit more spectacular🥴 Good to hear Hunter your booster was a success👍

That is a question I do not know the answer to. I know the norm is to have a booster with the same vaccine. Given that you had a significant adverse reaction to the AZ, it seems like a reasonable question to ask. Perhaps you would respond better to a mRNA vaccine.

Good news about side effects being manageable. Good to hear! What country are people in who have been offered a third vaccine? It is still awaiting a decision in England as to whether it will be rolled out and who will get it. Thank you.

The United States. A booster was made available for people moderately to highly immunocompromised. People with blood cancers at any stage of treatment were included.

Thank you hunter, my daughter who dose not have one of our MPNs has just had her second moderna vaccine and is very unwell, fever and crushing feeling in chest. It's reassuring it should only be a 24hr thing.

Well done, Hunter. I didn’t have any booster side effects, which I find worrying.

Glad you had your third shot and your reaction wasn’t so terrible. I’ll probably be getting mine in a couple of weeks.

I had my 3rd dose of the pfizer does this week, slightly sore arm, no other symptoms. I wonder if that is a bad sign as far as not producing antibodies. Stay safe, good luck.

Glad to hear! I had Johnson and Johnson so no booster for me, but I did have a 2 day flu like symptoms after mine and my hematologist said that was an excellent sign my immune system was working well.. I’m sure that’s the same for you!

You note that Lymph matters for the vaccine. I found that too, online. Did your Dr provide more info on WBC vs vaccine? It's hard to find. It seems with good WBCs at vaccine time the shot should work well, but no one seems to say for sure.

My docs did not provide any additional info. I was already aware that LYMPHs are the anti-viral WBC. With LYMPH the most suppressed of any WBC I considered it in my best interests to get the booster ASAP. While below normal, my LYMPHs are not so low as to be a significant risk, but I figure better safe than sorry.
