Hello,

You might have noticed that Bivalent (term they use for the updated new covid vaccination ) boosters are here. Anybody heard from their health care professionals about them for MPN? What are your thoughts and feelings on getting one?

Welcome Fall!

I was encouraged to have mine. Got it Friday. All fine except a sore arm for about 24 hrs.

I didn't speak to my HEM, but I got mine Saturday. No issues at all. I wasn't worried as this is my FIFTH COVID shot. AT this point, if there was issues I would have seen them. I also had my whole family get the UPDATED booster.

If you've already had the Moderna or the Pfizer, these are essentially identical in any side effects as they are changed only in their "software" programming.

In US (and maybe Canada?) we have the Ba.5 bivalent. In Eu and UK I believe they have the earlier ba.1 bivalent. Both work ok on Omicron ba.5, but there are currently clinical results only for the ba.1 version.

I will get it soon.

I have had two jabs and covid twice. I really don’t want any more jabs.

I don’t underestimate the effects of covid on some people at all but I think we need to do our own risk assessment, listen to advice and make the right decision for ourselves.

You're right about that, in many countries 90%+ have past infection or vax so most are already protected from the worst outcomes. I give Covid great respect since my husband near died from it, but that was at the start before anyone had any immunity.

»Just remember, a vaccine does not need to provide 100% sterilizing immunity in order to be considered effective and post-vaccination infections do not mean vaccines don’t work.

My wife and I had the vaccine Sunday morning, the side effects for my wife was a high 39 degree temp for 18 hours and feeling so tired. For me a very sore arm.

Please be careful! The Bivalent vaccination was rushed out to the public without any testing on humans. It was only tested on 8 mice. Even health professionals are protesting.

The ba.1 bivalent offered in UK was clinically tested.

"CHMP recommendation based on safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity data from a Phase 2/3 trial of the Omicron BA.1-adapted bivalent vaccine"

pfizer.com/news/press-relea...

But it's correct the ba.5 offered in US is only now being clinically tested. The two (ba.1 and ba.5 Omicron) are very similar, but there is an assumption required for this extension.

I’m a bit wary this time. I’ve had five and after the last one I got shingles and still recovering so I will be talking to my haemo team before getting the sixth.

my wife got shingles shortly after a Covid vaccination in December last year, still having a tender itchy scalp where it was.

Sounds nasty! Mine was on my leg and foot and I now can’t walk without a stick. I wouldn’t want it again!

I had my 6th Covid vaccination yesterday Moderna "Spikevax bivalent Original/Omicron. I live near Richmond North Yorkshire and was emailed an invite from the NHS on Friday 9/9/2022

I also got the new bivalent vaccine. Just a sore arm and a little fatigue for a day. My platelets are around 600 and doctor advised I get the shot. My understanding of the covid risk for pcv patients is thrombosis so, for me, the risk reward favored the shot.
