Hello everybody I am now at day 86 post transplant and enjoyed 6 weeks at home however about 2 weeks ago I started getting some stomach issues and my liver and kidney functions have dropped write off so when I came in for my regular Monday bone marrow team clinic meeting I was told the not go home go straight to ward c5a and Westmead my old home during the the transplant. I had a endoscope and they detected some mild graft-versus-host disease in my bowl and I am now receiving steroid treatment .
I am not sure how long I will be in hospital for that, it's probably going to be at least another week as they need to treat the gvhd and then taper me back off the steroids. I had a shot of g-csf which shot my neutrophil level from .7 to 3.0 in about 6 hours to assist with any infections from the endoscope pretty amazing jump when my levels especially my neutrophils had been struggling to get to 1.0 unfortunately this will be a temporary benefit and it is expected that my white cell level will go back to where it was in a couple of days. I remain confident in my medical team and strong that I will make a full recovery just with a little bit more patience then what I was originally hoping for.
Thanks for all your support over the last 3 months it is amazing to have positive posts from all over the world I truly appreciate it.
Best wishes...
Warwick

I had some liver/kidney issues while coming off cyclosporine a few months out and was given steroids. I got even hairier prompting my youngest to suggest that I audition for the next Planet of the Apes movie as I had my own outfit! Chris
Hi Steve Many Thanks for sharing this update from Warwick. Hopefully this will be a minor setback on his road back to full health. The moderate Graft Versus Host Disease Warwick is experiencing could be a blessing in disguise as quite often it can denote a strong Graft which how my Consultant described it to me. So in a way it's a good thing though not whilst you're going through it and I really hope it remains at this level for him and he's not on too high a dose of steroids for any longer than he needs to be. Please Thank Warwick for his update and pass on our thoughts and best wishes to him going forward.
Thank you for sharing this. It's very helpful to hear about Warwick"s experience, the highs as well as the scary parts! Please pass my thanks on to him for being willing to share during a rough time.Best wishes, Jennie
Hi, Steve, thanks for posting this latest update. It helps give some of us insight into what to possibly expect after a SCT. It sounds like Warwick has a great attitude and will overcome this next obstacle, and can start looking to a future of good health. We are all rooting for him.
I am, thanks. I don’t know if you read my update, but when I went back for my lab work about a week and a half ago my red blood cell numbers had improved, so I did not need my EPO injection. My platelets were still high but they went from over a million to about 750,000. I start my physical therapy tomorrow for my herniated disc in my spine. All things considered, I am definitely doing better. I hope you are doing well.
