Last night I started having blood in my urine, I took a sample in to the doctors (easier said than done) I’ve had a message to say there’s no sign of infection so they’ve sent it to the lab for further testing, which is quite worrying. Obviously at the moment there’s a bit of a back log in the lab, so don’t know when I’ll get the results. I don’t have any other symptoms, a bit of a niggle deep in my tummy, but nothing else. I wondered if anyone else had had this as a reaction to medication or something else? I’m on Anagrelide and aspirin, plus co-codamol for my arthritis. My platelets etc are ok, had my check up Wednesday. I was anaemic and on iron tablets but my counts have come back up so off the iron tablets now.
I’d appreciate any advice.
Thanks

Hi Lizzie, sorry to hear you’re worried. Have you eaten or drank anything which could affect your urine? Silly question probably but have seen it happen. If not, why don’t you give doc a ring back and ask what they are testing for. At least an explanation may help your worries. Keep in touch and let us know how you get on. E hugs Aime xx😻😻
Thanks, but no haven’t had anything to colour the urine and doctors did say definitely blood in it. I tried phoning doctors back but doctor had gone and all receptionist knew was that the sample had been sent to the lab for further tests. So it will be a long weekend worrying what they’re going to say. I do know someone with bladder cancer whose only symptom was blood in urine, which is why I am so worried. I’ll post when I know anything. X
I had an episode of this a few months ago. I passed blood in decreasing amounts for 3 consecutive days. There's nothing unusual in having your blood sent off for testing. The tests found nothing. After going through all the other possibilities the GP and I agreed it was probably down to over exertion (I'd been doing too much digging in the garden and got over tired. ) Lesson learned, slowed down, no repeat episodes since.
Thank you, I haven't ben overdoing it, probably more like under doing! Fingers crossed it will go away on it's own. In the past I have had polyps which caused bleeding in my womb and my colon, I have no idea whether you can get them in your bladder as well.
Hi Lizzie, so sorry you are having this worry on top of everything else. You are as wise as everybody else when it comes to avoiding Dr Google. I hope you don’t have to worrying a weekend, even though I know you will. I am keep everything crossed for you my lovely. Take care xxxx
Thank you, so far today my water has been clear, hopefully that will carry on, maybe I've had a bladder stone, I'll see what the lab rsults are on Monday. x
I also had that a few years ago. They said It was due to my body needing to get rid of excess platelets and my spleen being unable to cope with the amount. Apparently your body finds an alternative rubbish disposal method which in my case was through the kidneys. Hence visible blood in wee. It did eventually sort itself out. Our bodies are amazing machines. However it is still important that you are checked for anything else that could cause it.
Thank you, hopefully it's nothing awful, I think having ET makes you worried at the best of times and when anything else crops up it's hard not to get carried away!
Hi Lizzie, sorry to hear of your worry. I'm sure things will be alright. When I had a urinary infection a year ago there was blood in my wee but all cleared with antibiotics. I'm also having a worrying weekend as I've had black tarry motions yesterday which indicate bleeding somewhere in the upper intestines. I'm waiting to see if it clears over weekend but will ring GP's to see what to do if it continues. I read in the aspirin leaflet that it can cause intestinal bleeding. Perhaps it can also affect the urinary tract. I have ET also but haven't had my blood tested since 20th February when platelets were up. I'm only on aspirin at moment. Haematologist was going to put me on Anagrelide at next appointment. It's a worry when we can't get answers and I dread having to visit the hospital at the moment. Hoping you get your results very quickly and all is well. Best wishes, Fran
With having ET I think we worry so much about side effects and getting other things as well. You can get tarry stools through different foods, also iron tablets or supplements and aspirin . I had the camera up an down ( they rinsed it under the tap in between 😱) they found a polyp and removed it, no problems since. Scary at the time though! I’m on Anagrelide, my platelets are in normal levels at the moment.
My water has been clear, so far, today, got to wait for lab results though.
Thanks for your reply Lizzie. You stay safe too and hope your results are fine. By the way I just had a colonoscopy in January and all was clear apart from Diverticulosis which I've had for ten years. It could be that causing bleeding but I haven't got the usual left sided groin pain. Will wait and see. xx Fran
I was on Anagrelide and aspirin last year. The same thing happened to me. Blood in my urine. I stopped taking aspirin for a while and it stopped. However, Anagrelide did not bring my platelets down as expected so I was changed to Busulfan.
This did the trick for my platelets but my consultant was not happy with this long term.
I now inject Peg interferon once a week and find I am coping quite well. My platelets are actually a bit low at the moment but it’s early days.
I’ve been on Anagrelide and aspirin for a few years and not had this before, however I’d been on hydroxy for over 3 years when I developed a reaction to that. I’ll have to see what GP says and then contact haematology and see what they say. This started Thursday, after I’d had a telephone consultation on Wednesday and told them all was well !
