Hi all,

Has anyone experienced high blood pressure whiles on pegasys.?

I had dizziness headache for last 2 weeks( dizziness started after my four injection of pegasys. I have Et Jak 2 +

Went for my blood test today and arranged with my nurse to check my blood pressure which was high 156/104 ( never had problem with my blood pressure before) .

Awaiting for my nurse to call me back. As not sure if I need some meds for it.

Hoping my bloods test result will be ok tomorrow and platelets are behaving well.

Ela

Yes. I too am ET + JAK2. I HAVE had high blood pressure previously and do not cope with the medication issued for lowering so do not take it.

I am on Pegasys, which has lowered my platelet count admirably and clopidogrel. Due at the haeme Dr.next week and know it has dropped again, so looking good. However, I know my blood pressure is up again. The last 3 days it's been sky high. Mine goes up and down but no reason to consider it's due to Pegasys.

Previously, my GP has prescribed a blood lowering drug whilst on medication for my MPN.

What I don't understand is, if my platelets are down to normal and the clopidogrel is stopping the stickiness of my platelets, why would I need my blood pressure lowering?

I hope this helps. Please let me know how you get on. All the best Penelope

Hi Penelope,

Thank you for your message.

I booked myself Gp app this morning.

My blood pressure was back to normal and my blood test results came back all good.

My doc noticed that my heart is beating too fast so he perscibed me Bedranol so slow it down.

My hemo nurse also called me to say that she talked to consultants and they advice to reduce my pegasys intake from every week to every other week to see if that helps with my blood pressure and heart palpitations.

They think I am experiencing pegasys side effects.

Hope you feeling well

Thank you for letting me know this. I didn't even think of slowing down heartbeat. It is something that has never been commented on or suggested.

Maybe when I visit my haeme on Tuesday, I will be able to reduce my Pegasys dosage to fortnightly. I'm really hoping my platelets will have reduced further. Last count was 320 at the end of July.

All the best Penelope x

320 is good isn’t it. Mine is 411 atm.

Why do u want it to reduced further, I thought 150-400 is accepted level.

Let me know hat your hemo said

Take care

Hi Ela

Yes, I thought so as well. When I went on Pegasys my haemo asked to see me in 12 weeks!!!! i couldn't believe it and said I thought on a new drug I should be monitored more regularly. He saw me after 6 due to his holiday leave.

At that point I was 380 and he said he wanted me to stay on the same dose. He then gave e an appointment for 7 weeks, which will be the 28th. (next Tuesday). I had a blood test in between because I told my nurse I wasn't happy with the length of time, taking into account the drop in my platelets and she agreed. So I await the haemo response on Tuesday. I think he's a robot...........

Ha ha ha ...I like that.....I think my hemo is a robot too.

I was on pegasys for 4 weeks and my hemo doc said see u in 8 weeks and I said I wasn’t happy bout it either so he gave me 2 nd blood test form ( just in case)

Glad I have done it otherwise I will be going crazy.

To be honest I think they have some sort of ssystem and they need to stick to it .....but if we ask we can still have our extra blood test. My next app is on the 19th of Sep so 8 weeks after my last one.

But in a meantime I was in touch with my hemo nurse and my go and my head is already bit better after 2 days on special tablets to lower my heart beat. So all good here atm 😋

Good luck with your robot hemo......😛😛😛😛

I took my husband along with me after I refused to take hydroxy any more. I stopped at 4 weeks and he didn't see me for 5 weeks after that. When he saw my husband his entire face altered along with his demeanour.

I'll definitely take him to the next one. I hadn't realised he was so effective until then.

Keep smiling and keep in touch. xxx

That s good. My husband is always with me but that doesn’t really change with my hemo doc. He is always very short and quick when he is talking. But I kind of got used to him now. Getting my second opinion in Chester soon. So I will let u know if I will find out anything new.

Def keep in touch

Speak soon

Thank you.

I had my second opinion from Nauman Butt at Liverpool. He is excellent. The first doctor who has actually taken the time to talk to me about the condition and knows a lot about it.

Stay happy . All the best. Penelope x
