Went to my community phelbotomy service this morning to find it had been closed and consolidated with everyone being sent to 2 other community hospitals. Declined to go as I knew everyone else would attend regardless. Frankly was scared to go in the first place but arrived for opening to try and lessen exposure but was not going to an even more packed hospital. Especially as I knew both both alternatives and the ability to self isolate was nil.
Rang my local hospital and found they have a phlebotomy service just for haematology patients twice a week, so it may be worth travelling to get blood tests in a safer atmosphere. They are aware and not just office workers but be prepared for a wait on the phone and ask either the clinic staff or the haematology secretaries. Leave your consultant alone, they have too much to do.
I am lucky in having a garden where I can isolate plus a wood I can drive to that is easy to take paths through the trees if anyone else is around. If you don,t ,don't take chances. This will end, all plagues have. If you can encourage any members of your family, friends etc. to give blood then do so, it may not help you but you might benefit from the actions of my wife and son who have booked sessions.
