Phlebotomy

Treatment has been phlebotomy and aspirin. Recently diagnosed with low iron saturation level; Hematocrit is 55; last phlebotomy was Sept 2024. Doctor strongly recommends Hydroxyurea, as he will no longer do phlebotomies. I am terrified to take that medication.

It's possible the HCT and RBC number would have been this low regardless of the Jakafi, RBCs bounce around, especially only 3 weeks after a phlebotomy. I've never had blood drawn so close to a phlebotomy so one would expect HCT and RBC to be lower closer to it.

My platelets are at 850k & hematocrit of 44 since phlebotomy. Im concerned about disease progression. Anyone with autoimmune know of meds to address disease progression that are options?

It's been a struggle to get the hematocrit down - 9 phlebotomys over the last nine weeks and now three weeks of Hydroxyurea to get from the mid-70's down to 52 (before today's phlebotomy). It seems to be getting close to the 45 target.
