Hi all. After suffering for so long with joint pain I've now been told i have a vitamin d deficiency and been advised to take vitamin d supplements. I have pv and taking hydroxycarbamide and warfarin due to portal vein thrombosis. Has anyone out there had the same problem and is it possible the deficiency could be caused by the pv.

Thanks for that. It's quite interesting how much conflicting advice there is. I've also read an article that vitamin d supplements accelerate the disease by blocking receptors. I'm 58 and always been active but finding the pain getting worse and debilitating. Gp advised the vitamin d supplement but she is not of good knowledge of mpns. Seems like we're in the lap of the gods. I will wait until my next haematologist appointment next week and hope i get some answers. Thanks for the replies folks.
Hey Poly2...
I am Post ET / MF & I have been taking Jakafi for over three (3) years now, & one of the consequences of those side-effects is that my Vit. D is always deficient, or at least it was until I started taking them to supplement that loss.
I do spend a great deal of time outdoors cycling, so I can only really put it down to the med's, in my view...
As MF is a Type of Blood / Bone cancer, it is essential that I have the required Vit. D to help keep my bones as strong as I can, for as long as I can...
Best wishes, stay safe & well...

Totally agree. It's either the meds or the disease that depletes the body of vitamin d. Just a little worried that it makes the condition worse and unbearable. We get a lot of answers on this site that we don't from doctors and haemotoligists so really grateful for a little more knowledge.
Thank you. Stay safe
Nutritional deficiencies can be complex. They can be related to a variety of diseases and medications. I am Vit D, Vit B/Folate and magnesium deficient. I take supplements for all of these. I am under the care of an Integrative (Functional) Medicine doctor. Many docs have little knowledge regarding the basics of nutrition and the use of supplements and other complementary health interventions. That is why I go to the Integrative/Functional Medicine doc.
Suggest looking into a comprehensive nutritional evaluation if you can. My doc used the NutrEval panel - but there are others. Regarding the joint pain, I have had great success with Curcumin. It works better than any NSAID or Lyrica for joint pain. I have not needed not taken a NSAID in over 4 years since I started the Curcumin supplement.
All the best to you.
