Should I have the pneumonia jab? I am 75 with ET. The Dr. Said that I should check. I know that it is not a live vaccine.

Pneumonia jab.
I’ve had it - I’m 64 with ET, and take HU and clopidogrel. No adverse effects at all.
Yes is the answer! With MF my blood counts are all low and I have just had my second pneumococcal vaccine as it is recommended every 5 years in immune compromised people. My arm was sore for a couple of days but better than a bad dose of pneumonia! The vaccine is not live as you say so it should not be necessary to avoid it. Best wishes, Jan
I have PV and Got the vaccination without any issues.
Yes! I'm 35 - oh alright 66 - have ET and take Anagrelide. I've had the pneumonia and flu jab with no adverse effects.
Hi there,
I am 52 with ET and on Pegasys Interferon with Clopidrogel. I have had the pneumococcus injection plus annual 'flu jabs and feel that the benefit outweighs the small risks. Pneumococcus causes more infections than just pneumonia - such as sinusitis. These infections, although minor to pneumonia are things patients in our immunocompromised position need to avoid. Another point to consider is that in the future as patients with chronic diseases we have an increased chance of having to live in a care home. In these kind of establishments infections such as those caused by the pneumococcus bacteria spread very quickly as people are living together in close groups. It is often best to prepare for the worst case scenario........
It is important though that you are comfortable with your decision. Perhaps if you are unsure it might be worth considering having the injections at different times and give your body a rest in between.
Best of luck,
