Pneumonia Jab...is it safe for us?

Just been for my 2nd ever flu jab and was offered Pneumonia jab as well. Told the nurse I had ET and she advised I ask my consultant first. Are we allowed this?

On another note, I was at a Halloween drag show in support of the LGBT community last night and was pulled up on stage to perform a 'dance off' with a 30 year old man dressed up as a skeleton! The crowd decided I was definitely the winner and I won a £50 voucher for a lovely clothes shop! Good job I'd had a couple of drinks first....go me, this 62 year old with fatigue has still got it, whatever 'it' is.

I've had the vaccine (PV JAK2+).

From a personal point of view, it's a must!

I have ET and have had the flu and pneumonia shots and, because I’m in Canada where the shingles vaccine is the new not-live type, I’ve had it too. No ill effects at all from any. Also no attacks of flu, pneumonia or shingles!

Hi Mica.

I’m generally against these types of vaccines. Statistics show they have done nothing to decrease the number of flu and pneumonia cases and I know many who got the flu despite being vaccinated. The flu mutates itself every year and the vaccine available this year is for last year’s flu.

The flu vaccine is also known to accelerate dementia or the onset of it. A self vaccination for every illness is to eat clean, healthy foods and stay away from alcohol, sugar and anything else that weakens our immune system, especially toxic people and situations. I used to get severe colds and occasional flu 2-3 x annually until I was diagnosed with ET over 2 years ago. I’m 54 now. I immediately went on the AutoImmune Paleo diet, adjusted to my particular needs and I’ve banned all chemicals from my home and body(soaps, etc) I only do all natural. I have had one cold since and it that lasted only 3 days only!!!

My doctor (40) just had the shingles and they were over in a week. No problem. My 82 year old father the same. So why take a shingles jab? Is it life threatening? It depends on how healthy you are in the first place.

Furthermore, my dad had never had a flu or pneumonia shot and rarely had the flu. he got the flu shot in the old age home at 85 and he got the flu as did others in the home despite the shot. What would yearly vaccines have done to him in the long run? If he had 20 or 30 jabs? There are no studies.

It’s big business, all dictated by Pharma. It’s each one’s choice to live a healthy life style in order to avoid illness. The jabs are available for some few who really need them. That’s where each of us must make a well-informed, decision. Am I high risk? How do I reduce my risk? Unfortunately, the masses are not well informed and that makes decision making difficult. I wish you a healthy winter. Anag

Thank you for your response Anag. I have to agree with you about the flu shot, it is very unlikely they choose the right vaccine every year, it's a bit of a lottery and I too feel the chances are slim they get it right. I have only ever had flu twice in my life, proper flu, not just a bad cold. Both were decades ago thankfully. I rarely get struck down with colds either.

I try to be more thoughtful re diet, chemicals and alcohol but could never be as strict as you I don't think. A little of what I like makes living a pleasure for me, so yes, I have the odd beer, G & T, chocolate and cake in moderation.

I shall deliberate on going back for my pneumonia shot.

Wishing a healthy winter for you too.

The two haematologists I have seen, have both recommended the flu and the pneumonia jab.

I suppose you can always find people who have never had the jabs and never caught any of the deceases, but I don’t think we can use these examples to decide what is best for us.

I’ve had the pneumonia jab - think it’s fine for us as not a live vaccine. Great work on the dance off!
