Flu Jab. Probably a coincidence but had my first flu jab last week a couple of days before my venesection. Within another couple of days developed the worst sinus infection I have had for at least 3 or 4 years? I am diagnosed with secondary PV and take aspirin and my venesections are every 6 weeks. Been feeling really well so this has been a shock . I will try to find out if the timing makes any difference e.g. lowering my immune system and making it more likely to pick up a virus? If anyone knows please update me. Thanks

FLU JAB AND VENESECTIONS
Hi Michele. I have ET, so not the same as you, but just thought I would post.
After my flu jab, I felt really rough for a couple of weeks , nothing really specific, but unwell. I don't know if this was caused by the injection but rather too much of a coincidence . Anyhow its cleared up now thankfully. I hope you feel better soon.
Best wishes Sandy
Hi, having a flu jab whilst still having traces of cold is very very dangerous and can lead you to the hospital. In fact I was told that before having one we should have a chest X-ray to check if there is any cold left.
Hi Kelly. Have never been told anything of that nature, I just join the queue .... thanks for that I will bear that in mind in the future.
Regards Sandy
I know they never tell or know about that I think. I know of several incidents that they had to go to the hospital but the worst experience was my own mother who had a flu jab at 90 years, developed flu like symptoms for 15 days, didn't want me to take her to the hospital (on top of that I had a broken wrist)! and when finally she told me she was feeling better that same night she died of pulmonary edema. I had the shock of my life. I still cannot get over it.
Oh I am so very sad to hear that, my condolences to you. I can understand why you posted your original post.
Thank you Sandy
Hi
I have ET and I have had a flu jab the last 10 years. This year I had a slight cold and after the flu jab I felt terrible. I think if you have some sort of infection or cold already the flu vacc. makes it worse.
Yes, I was told to make sure I was as fit as possible before a venesection. Once, I had a temperature which I didn’t realise I had, and the nurse only took half a pint of blood as she said it was asking for trouble taking more, along with other ailments but my blood was thick also, so we had to reach a compromise. I would imagine venesection + any vaccination is not a good idea if it can be avoided.
Hope you feel better soon. I felt lousy from the Monday morning until the Wednesday post flu jab alone. X😻
