Platelets rise

I have ET Jak2 + diagnosed 2 yrs ago. I'm on hydroxycarbamide 5 days 500mg 2 days 1000mg. My platelets have been below 450000 for over a year. However my blood test yesterday platelets are 580000 so increased to 1000mg for 3 days. Asked Haematologist why this may be that platelets have risen but no answer. I recently had chest infection but over 2 weeks ago. Any thoughts?

Mine dropped recently from 450,000 to150,000 and my dose of hydroxy remained the same, so our treatment varies , my nurse specialist was unconcerned as I felt good. I guess it's one of the vagaries of having an MPN.

Interesting...she wasn't concerned that you are borderline thrombocytopenic now? Not that a platelet count of 150,000 is dangerous. From what I know spontaneous bleeding from low platelets usually doesn't occur until you get around 30,000.

You can have elevated platelets even post infection according to this paper.

But one thing that comes to mind is possible iron deficiency...that raised my platelets by almost 100k. Do you have a copy of your bloodwork and if so are the rest of the numbers on your CBC in normal range?
