Just wondering if anyone had ideas about what pushes the platelet count up , I have et my platelet counts hover around 500 but this time have risen to 530 I know it’s not a lot and some people have much higher counts but I can’t help wondering if it can be to do with stress , any thoughts , thanks in advance .

Stress does help platelets !! Or anything else . So it would be good to work on coping with the ups and downs of life, whilst keeping a close watch on platelet level. Have you discussed your latest results with consultant?

My platelets rise when I'm most anaemic and drop when less so. Which makes sense when you think about it.

right, I've heard iron deficiency cause elevation to the platelet

That is correct. Iron deficiency can become an issue for those of us with PV who use phlebotomy to control erythrocytosis. Having that issue now myself. Platelets are up significantly higher than usual.

Platelet levels can cycle by as much as 100K in a single day. Bleeding, injury, and inflammation can all increase thrombopoiesis. This is the body's normal response. It takes on different significance when you already have elevated platelets. Reactive thrombocytosis is quite common for many of us. Many people do find that stress can increase thrombopoiesis. Stress can also increase inflammation. Inflammation can increase anxiety. Your body is an integrated interactive system. All of the parts are connected.

You are correct to think the a rise from 500 to 530 is not significant. You should expect to see this kind of variance on a regular basis. It is the trend over time that matters, not an individual read on the labs.

These are the things that I have suspected raised my platelets. Stress and anxiety - mine have gone up again recently and it correlates with me being stressed with work and shielding. Over exercising. Exercise is good but I have found over doing it can cause inflammation. Lastly CBD oil. I was using this to help knee pain and it seemed to increase my platelets so I looked into the used of can ibis related products and research showed it increases platelet growth.

I was told that the platelets can vary day to day. That rise might be a blip or your body could be fighting a minor infection it’s the overall picture the heamos look at.

Stress causes inflammation and, since mpns are an inflammatory condition.it seems natural that the platelets would rise. But, as Hunter pointed out, platelets do rise and fall all the time. What matters, according to my hematologist, is how you feel. Some people could have a million platelets and feel okay and others, like me, when I’m over 600,000, I’m wiped out. She likes to keep me”stable” in the 500’s. She’s more concerned with my hemoglobin because of my anemia. Be well.
