Hi, is anyone on Pegasys suffering from acid reflux, I have it really badly and Omeprazole is not helping. Thanks, Frances.

Hi Frances's, I find that it's the aspirin that gives me the reflux. You have my sympathy because it's awful. I take a Nature's Best remedy called Betaine HC1. I find that works. Due to bruising, I now only have aspirin every other day which is better for me and because of that the reflux has also improved but the Betaine has really helped me and did when I was on aspirin every day.

Wishing you all the very best, Anita

Hi I’m on hydroxicarbomide and lanzoprozole . I found taking lanzoprozole befor my bedtime meds instead of the morning helps enormously.

Thank you very much for replying. I'm on Omeprazole night and morning plus gaviscon advance last thing. So far it's not helping at all. I'm pretty sure the Pegasys is causing it as I had it badly last year and we stopped it and the symptoms went away. I'll keep persevering and hope to get some relief. Best wishes, Frances.

Hi francesb i take lanzoprozole 1 at night and 1 in the morning and that works fine.

I was sent for an endoscopy, about 4 years ago, when on HU and aspirin as Omeprazole wasn't working. I was changed to Esomeprazole which the nurse consultant doing the endscopy described as Omeprazole with a tweek - he said that despite their initial sceptism they had had success with patients who like me found Omeprazole had stopped working.

As long as I take it an hour before food it seems to keep the acid reflux at bay - since then I have used Interferon and am on Ruxolitinib now. Aspirin however changed to Apixaban after a DVT. I always assumed the aspirin had caused the initial reflux problem. Unfortunately also have to keep to quite a bland diet but worth it to avoid the pain - a shame as I enjoy cooking and experimenting with different ingredients! Hope you get a solution as very unpleasant.

Thank you, I had heard there's something newer and better than Omeprazole so perhaps it's Esomeprasole. I will investigate. Best wishes, Frances.

Just a thought, I had an endoscopy for acid reflux and it turned out to be bile, not stomach acid. What does yr GP think about an endoscopy - easy peasy procedure.

Hi, I'm no whimp but I'm a bit scared of endoscopy, I gag at the slightest thing in my mouth, not sure I could cope but guess I would have to! Will see what my consultant says next week as its him prescribing, not the GP. Many thanks for replying. F.

Frances - quite understand about endoscopy. The leaflet I was sent with my appointment offered the alternative of sedation (If I recall correctly one didn't have to let them know in advance) and again actually at the clinic I could have changed my mind and had sedation. Only difference was you have to have someone with you to take you home. This was despite it being a very busy clinic - in fact it was an extra one held on a Saturday afternoon! I was impressed by the kindness of all the staff involved who made it as easy as possible - was a bit of a conveyor belt!. Hope you get problem sorted one way or another.

Thanks very much, it's comforting to know sedation is available, not sure if it is here as a friend was refused it a few years ago but things may have changed. If I have to go down that route will certainly request it. Best wishes, Frances

I had a doctor tell me i had acid reflux...he gave me 2 scripts in the garbage they went. They assume you have to much acid..it maybe that you do not have enough. If you do not have enough stomach acid the food does not get digested properly then ferments and that is what causes the problem. I took betaine HCL which is an acid...no more problems with indigestion. It was so bad it felt like some one was pushing a telephone pole through my chest. Good luck
