Do I have Secondary Polycthaemia?

I have had by bone marrow test result back as being normal :-). I am obviously happy about this but wonder now what is the cause of the raised Hg Hct etc. Feeling happy and confused at the same time. Maybe it was just an odd few months or raised levels and everything will go back to normal now???

Hi chrissie

As far as I can tell and to the best of my knowledge that means you have either Apparent Polycythaemia or Secondary Polycythaemia. If after other tests like ultra sound scans on your internal organs, nothing shows up as a cause like cyst on your liver or kidney etc... for example then it will be called Idiopathic Polycythaemia (it means cause unknown)

From their on its a bit of a waiting game to see if something else shows up. Or it could just go dormant and stop... but its suggested that it can show its ugly face again in full later in years (I don't know how true this is though)

If I wasn't using my mobile to write this id say a lot more in detail because I've missed loads out.

God bless

Geoff
