When I started CBT (which due to it not being covered in my private medical insurance I only went 5 times) I was advised to get the maximum from it I would need circa 18 sessions. So perhaps 12 wasn't quite enough
It depends on how you got on with your last Therapist, sometimes both patient and Therapist are not suited and a new one needs to be introduced. You also need to be able to relate and understand what is expected of you, The problem is you are introduced to various techniques that should help you so in a way the problem may be you are unable to address or approach what is causing your concerns. Various Therapist have differing techniques to try and help you understand yourself and the reasons for your low mood.
You are quite lucky these days getting a further chance to gain support from a therapist, sometimes after one pr two courses they will start looking for different way to approach your problems. You need to be able to try and help yourself as well
my feeling is because i didn’t take much away from the 12 sessions last time will will i this time, but I take on board your advice I have a feeling the cbt won’t be for a long time yet so plenty to think about in the meantime
First off ..is this the same doctor u tried it before with?? If not.. why not..every doctor has there own way of doing things and this might be a better fit for ya.Plus..ur body changes.Maybe now might be better for ya and a positive experience. Bottomline.. what does ur gut tell ya??
I tried CBT twice. Did nothing for me. I resented the idea that it was my thinking making me ill and the concept I could just 'change my thinking' all would be well made me feel really guilty. My thinking is who I am. Also the examples they gave were like they were from a different universe to the one I was in. I simply couldn't relate to it. Talking therapies have never helped me.
