Hi Dilly your welcome, I just thought that NHS could explain it

Better than I could and you could get a picture of what it is.

I found it helpful but it does take work and practice, maybe also

Try and go to Library and get one of the many books which

Detail it. It's worth a try, as in Depression I think bits of everything

Have helped me, there is no magic bullet. Lol.

Hope this helps to get you thinking about it.

Hi, I had CBT a while ago, and Im thinking of doing it again. It is very good. I expect you are in a group. You just sit and discuss your thoughts. It is about changing our thought patterns. It reverses everything we think about ourselves, changing negative to positive.

You will be asked to keep a thought diary, where just write down any negative thoughts you had like `everybody was looking at me when I went shopping and I felt anxious`. Then you write what you did to overcome that, ie. went shopping when it was quiet, or do your shopping in smaller shops.

Good luck with it.

Keep in touch.

Hi Dilly Dally,

I've done CBT with the NHS. It can help with managing and challenging negative thoughts/self hatred etc or to try and get over anxiety or various phobias. There are a lot of positive techniques you can take from it. There are also a lot of books and DVDs you can get from the library in the meantime if you want to. I'll need to look at my stash to recommend a few.

The only thing CBT won't do is address any deepseated or significant underlying issues. So it can be good for a phobia for example, but it generally won't look at, say, addressing issues from childhood. It does however try and help you address the negative thoughts/actions you may have as a result. I hope that makes sense. To look into more deepseated issues that tends to be more of a traditional type of therapy,

I love your photo by the way,

thanks sarah,

I've been reading up a bit about it on line. the picture is of my dogs, jack who is 15 and so loving and laid back and meg a jack Russell that has so much character but can be very moody x

I had it, you really need a good doctor, I had s great one, she took me right back and made me understand myself.

It has worked for me, still have many bad days, but the stuffing learned helps, you can cherry pick what helps.

Must stress you need to gel with your doc.

Hi Dilly dally. CBT is a great idea but it depends on the therapist. Give it a try as it does help the way you view situations. Luckily I don't suffer a lot with pain considering I am 71 but had a bad fall and ended up taking a high dose of gabapentin which was great. I should have read all the notes because you should wean yourself off them slowly and I didn't know this and just stopped taking them. I had a lot of side effects doing this.

I listen to a mindfulness tape on Utube for 15 mins twice a day or when I can't get to sleep. The best one is 15 min long and picture of a pink cloud called Joy. It really calms me down.

I only joined this forum in May and I have found out more info than in all the 21 years of depression. Gambit 62 advised me to have b12 blood test as this can cause depression and lo and behold I am now on b12 injections. Gambit also told me about a Light Box so am getting that today.

I have spent thousands over the years on holistic therapies and non have worked. Mindfulness is good and utube is free.

The only trouble with this forum is I spend ages reading it when I should be doing housework. My husband keeps taking the mickey saying I am as bad as grandkids always on iPad.

Take care and look at Gambit 62 as she is very knowledgable and helpful,I reckon she is the answer to my prayers giving me so much help from Linx

Hi, CBT is very effective for anxiety, depression and low self esteem. I found the homework doesn't take long and might just be something like writing down a compliment you have been given or two scenarios of what you were thinking in response to a situation and how you then coped.

I wish you well but make sure you feel comfortable with the therapist.
