Hello have just joined. I have recurrent depression and it’s coming back again. I am trying to combat it by exercising and swimming in the cold sea. I have a knot in my stomach and negative thoughts and memories keep popping into my head. I feel lonely

Hi Orangey555

Nice to meet you. So many people on the site have had/have mental health problems. I’m currently dealing with GAD (quite well, with the aid of anti-depressants - escitalopram) but have had terrible depression in the past which left me a wreck and feeling isolated and that my life was joyless and I was very scared. The fact that I’m 100% through the depression means that there is a way to recover. With me it also was exercise and time - just walking in amongst fields and countryside and eating avocados! For the depression I didn’t get any medication but this was a long time ago. Are you taking anything? Dr Claire Weeks has written some great material and her ‘living with your nerves” helped loads. Good luck 😉

I am not taking anything at the moment but will contact my GP if things do not improve by the end of next week

Keep me updated. I’m sorry for how you’re feeling but this site is a great support aid - you may feel lonely but you are not alone 😊

Welcome to this site,

If you are suffering from depression and it is recurrent I would advise you to make an appointment to see your GP, make a list of your concerns, and the reason why you feel the past problem is coming back once more.

If you need to talk many have experiences of the condition you mention, they are very supportive.

Hey Orangey555 I am awake in the middle of the night due to my own crippling depression (and too much coffee) so I wanted to let you know my heart goes out to you through what you are experiencing. Forums like this can be helpful as they make you realise you’re not alone and there’s others out there who understand the feelings of depression when often they can be hard to explain to people. Well done for swimming cause that’s a really positive pro-active step you’re taking to keep the worst of it at bay and very impressive. Pm me if you need support x
