Weight Gain With Zyprexa (Olanzapine)

Hi All,

I have been feeling emotional recently due to weight gain. I take Zyprexa 10mg, one per day, and I have gained a lot of fat on my belly.

I don't know how much weight I've gained - I haven't checked. But I have noticed it on my belly.

This is making me feel down. I go to the gym every now and again, but my metabolism has changed because of my medication. I constantly want to eat things.

I've been wondering if I should change to a different medication - one that doesn't make me put on weight. The alternative would be to reduce the dose of Zyprexa.

I'm just not sure what I should do. That's why I've posted.

Hi I changed from Olanzipine to Fluoxetine for that very reason x

Thank you, yes I think I should change too. The only problem is that I have tried nearly all the antipsychotics. So i'll have to see which ones are left, or which were the best of a bad situation

Sorry it wasn't fluoxetine I changed to, it was aripiprozole x

Thanks, yes I have also tried Aripiprozole and I think it wasn't bad. I can't remember why I stopped taking it - maybe because I was trying to alleviate the symptoms completely. But none have worked so far anyway, so I could go back to Aripiprozole x

One last question: did you find that you were able to lose the weight when you changed medications? x

I'm sorry to hear that the weight hasn't shifted. It's really difficult, isn't it? I hope you manage to lose it soon x

I was on an anti psychotic and Gained 20 pounds. I came off it and the weight came off too. I'm on abilify now aNd have gained two pounds. If it gets to 5 I'm stopping that too. I've read Latuda has less weight gain side effects. I haven't tried that one yet.
