Hi all, my name is Dan. Suffering from a deep depression. Its a lonely fight but will not give up. Am anti pills but got so bad I decided to try sertraline. Have been on 50mg for 2 weeks. Seems like it made me worse. Will it soon have some kind of positive effect?

Hi Dan

Thanks for your message and welcome to this group.

So sorry that you are having such a lonely fight. We are here and want to help. Can you tell us more about your situation?

Our members have lots of experiences and are very supportive too.

It is worth going back to your doctor and explaining how you are feeling. It can take a few weeks for sertraline to get to the best effects.

Is there someone either a friend or family member that you can talk with?

The mind charity at mind.org.uk also have information and a helpline 0300 123 3393.

Do keep us updated about how you get on

Best wishes

Hey Dan! So everyone is different but it gets worse before it gets better. I decided to taper off.. it made me feel weird and foggy, forgetful.. ugh.

You’re welcome! I wanted off within 2 weeks but was told to just abruptly stop, but then got second opinions. So I’ve been on it 3.5 weeks.. I stop Saturday! Talk to your doctor. Don’t stop on your own. I was on 25mg for 2 weeks, then 12.5 for 1, then 12.5 every other day.

It takes about 4 weeks to get a better gauge on how they are helping you.as you know anti d are not a cure but an aid.ive not been on setraline but citalopram and am now on mirtazipine 30mg.your brain chemistry needs to adjust and level out.i used CBT also which helped and read a few books on the subject.i wish you well on your journey.
