Mirtazapine making me hyper and angry

This is a serious problem the school have picked up on it, my parents have and I have most certainly noticed that I’m more angry, hyper and agitated with everything I’ve been more upset and very fidgety.

Hi IBS_Problems and thank you for your post. I am sorry to hear things are so difficult for you at the moment. Mirtazapine is used to treat depression. It improves mood and feelings of wellbeing. Mirtazapine is an anto depressant that works by restoring the balance of natural chemicals in the brain. For anxiety, antidepressants like mirtazapine can take slightly longer to work. Anxiety does decrease with continued treatment. Stopping mirtazapine abruptly may result in irritability as one of the withdrawal symptoms. Please see your GP about the symptoms you are experiencing. Have you been referred to CAMHS [child and adolescent mental health services?] This organisation works with children and young people who have difficulties with their emotional or behavioural wellbeing. Your GP would be able to make a referral. Also, is there a counselling/pastoral service at your school who could help you? Are any other members able to help IBS_Problems, please? I’m with the adult mental health services and I’m not depressed I have it for my ibs and anxiety. Been on it for 3 months so it the min untill they can change it, I wouldn’t stop abuptly at all I want to sleep lol 😂

All drugs prescibed for mental health problems will have a different effect on each of us both in their effectiveness and their side effects. If a particular drug is felt by you to have side effects you don't want to tolerate, or if you and your GP agree it is doing little for you then your Gp should take you off that drug and try something different until one is found that your GP and more importantly you are happy with. If you have a particularly good psychiatrist then their advice should also be listened to.

I take mirtazapine which has ,FOR ME, no unwelcome side effects , and has the welcome side effect of helping my sleep.The "for Me" is in capitals as this may not be true for you and others. There is of course the possibility that the change in you is not due to the Mirtazapin but changing your drug with the agreement of your medics will go a long way to checking this. A long way but not quite all the way , as there is a remote chance the new drug may give the same side effects, or even more remotely the change in you is nothing to do with the drugs at all.But you do need to change , a drug you are not happy with is extremely likely to help you.

Yh so was mine but anti-depressants can help ibs cause mines stress related
