Can't deal with rejection

Over the last few months I have had to deal with rejection in that I have tried to get another job (having been forced to resign back in March this year because of my mental health and the issues that it caused). I tried signing up with an employment agency who stopped sending me anything after just 48 hours and have never replied to an email or phone call since. I applied for a job with my local council - I was interviewed but then everything went quite and no response to my phone calls. I told my GP how it was making me feel (and I was brutally honest for once) and they referred me back to the Community Mental Health Team. 6 weeks later and I get a letter, another rejection. I quote "intended users of the secondary care mental health specialist pathway will have multiple, complex needs including a clinically diagnosable mental health problem that impairs functioning significantly and contributes to risks to the individual and or to others." So not only do I get rejected but I am also being told that they no longer believe I have a mental health illness. Really has taken the wind out of my sails.

Hi how awful for you and I hope things pick up for you shortly. I don't think they are telling you that you don't have a mental illness, but rather that yours isn't complex enough for them under their obvious rationing system, therefore they haven't got the resources to treat you. I got refused when applying for NHS counselling too though they didn't write to me on the same terms as you. I found this interesting and now understand why they turned me down.

I know it's difficult but try not to see it as rejection - just that there are obviously a lot iller people than you around. It can be very difficult getting a job these days and I am sure you gave a good interview at yours, but it sounds like someone else was more qualified for the position. It's hard not to see it as rejection but just keep the faith that you will find something even better soon. This has been my experience that if you persevere then something better will turn up. x

Hello Missy

I can confirm what the situation is regarding Mental Health Treatment, that Hypercat explains. I have a confirmed Reactive Depression and a confirmed Short Term Memory Disorder and I have to be able to control my problems using training given about a year or so ago. Mental Health is rationed and we need to know that and try and move on. Six week wait before a telephone assessment is very much true to form. You would then await a further time period if they do give you a course of treatment. Courses are generally rationed to six appointments, then you will be expected to control your condition, with coping techniques explained to you.

What I will suggest is you either ask your GP if there are any Mental Health Day Centre Charities you could attend. In the UK try MIND. They may also have a list or can help in some way. Day Centres are a reall good thing to attend, you will meet like minded people who you can give and gain support from, sometimes these centres can also give courses of CBT, the course generally will be rationed to about six sessions, although you will have the use of the club and possibly make new friends.

I would only suggest you do some Voluntary Work as you await a new job position, this is because it is always easier to find a job from a position you are working in. Not only that doing Voluntary Work will help keep your mood positive, as you wait.

It is also important you keep contact with the Jobcentre on a weekly/biweekly basis.

Depending. You could try Agency Work to keep the brain active and prevent a dive back down to your Mental Health Concern.
