Hello YNWA

Welcome to this forum. I am sorry that your child is having a difficult time. This is a supportive community so our members may have experience and help to offer you.

Perhaps you could tell us more about your situation and the age of your child?

The most important thing is your awareness of this situation, this is so positive while you decide the best way to help your child.

Talking is helpful, encourage them to share things with you, try to listen and show empathy. You do not have to have solutions. Don’t ask too many questions or make any judgements.

You could also encourage them to talk with

someone at school , maybe a teacher or counsellor.

You can go to see your doctor , they may want to refer them to CAMHS. The child and adolescent mental health services.

The topics and pinned posts might have more information.

Mind at mind.org have information for parents .

www young minds.org have information about helping children with depression, The also have a helpline for parents, 0808 802 5544 freephone open Monday to Friday 9.30-4.00 pm

The NHS have information at nhs.ork/moodzone.

Do let us know how you get on.

Best wishes

Thanks for your reply , yeah my child is 14 and we have been referred to CAHMS , the school have been very supportive so we are going through the right channels to get help , but as a parent in the tough moments at home is learning techniques to bring my child out of a low point as it is heart breaking to watch , does anyone have experience on this .

I have a 9 year old who was referred to CAMHS and is now diagnosed with Autism and anxiety. There have definitely been some really difficult moments at home and I hate to see his pain and anxiety. However we have received a fair bit of support from CAMHS. We went on a post diagnostic course to learn about Autism which did help. Sometimes out son just needs space and time to work through things on his own. It also helps me to remind myself in the worst possible moments that there will be better time (and there usually is ☺)

Good luck and remember to be kind to youself. It's not easy but I understand how you feel.
