Mirtazipine...HELP!!

Hi has any one had a side effect to taking mirtazipine that involved overly tight muscles or muscle spasms? I’m not sure if the tablets are making me over sensitive but I have had muscle spasms which have resulting tight feelings and pain that can’t be ignored. Muscle relaxants and anti inflammatory from my doctor hasn’t helped.

Really need to know if this medication could cause this before I change to another antidepressant !!!!

Yeah muscle twitching can be a issue with remeron. I found it in my legs when first starting, it stopped for me eventually. Talk to your doctor regardless, perhaps a dif medication would be better

Yes. I was also taking Cipralex which made my muscles tighten involuntarily and it was just horrible, when the twitching from Mirtazapine started. I also gained a lot of weight on Mirtazapine. If you need Mirtazapine for sleep, maybe ask your doc if low dose Quetiapine would work better for you.

Ever since I have been on anti depressants & anti psychotics I have suffered from chronic restless leg syndrome / cramp like pains and the need to move my legs constantly. It initially got worse when I was started on Mirtazipine, and it is a listed side effect, but it now doesn't happen every night and I have been on Mirtazipine for 8 months.

Please be careful taking anti inflammatory medication (ibruprofen) as I was told not to (by my GP) with anti depressants because of the risk of stroke / bleeding. It is often written on the PIL which should be in the tablet box so you can check.

Hi - Yes, I think it is a side-effect - I used to get terrible "restless legs" on Mirtazepine - now on fluoxetine and it doesn't happen. Hope you feel better soon, and your GP is helpful and supportive!

Just a thought: Low magnesium levels can cause muscle spasms.

I had muscle spasms not long ago. The spasms had been occurring over the years, getting closer together and more painful. Reluctant to take yet more synthetic chemicals for various health problems, I decided to try magnesium. Experiment on myself, if you will. I took 1/2 the recommended dose. Within the week, all muscle spasms ceased. Wonder what chemical the doctor would have given me, had I mentioned the spasms?

I never had a reaction to this med. but have terrible muscle spasms and tightness and cramping. Magnesium, Malic Magnesium, Boswellin, all help with muscle pain and tightness. But the person to ask would be the pharmacist or medical dr. if it is that painful. My first problem was Neuromuscular and I have stronger meds I use now.

Yes the tightness won’t stop so I really do think it could be the tablets as iv never had this feeling so bad before, also for those of you who experienced this side effect with mirtazipine, did you also have increased anxiety or just it didn’t help for anxiety ? Really need some advice thanks
