Hi indervir and welcome to this caring community. It sounds as though you are doing an amazing job with looking after your son. In some areas in the UK support is provided for carers, such as craft days and different therapies, so please ask about these in your local area.

The National Autistic Society--NAS

autism.org-uk/ This is a leading charity and has branches in many parts of the UK.

Health Unlocked has an Asperger's community. You would be very welcome to join this forum also, where you can speak to other parents of children with special needs.

Also, Parent Partnership[information advice and support service for parents of children with special needs. They have branches all over the UK

It may be a good idea for you to make an appointment to see your GP to discuss how you are feeling. He/she will be able to help and support you. You are not alone and please continue to post on the forum. Are any other members able to help indervir, please? Thank you and best wishes.

I have two grandsons who have autism. One is severely disabled, with multiple health problems. He is in a wheel chair, and mostly non-verbal. Though, as a teen, he has learned to say a few very short sentences. We believe that he is able to understand more than he can express.

My other grandson, with autism, is high functioning. Someone just meeting him may not recognize he has a problem. I won't go into the many symptoms of autism that he displays. He presents a different set of problems than the one with more serious difficulties.

I can sympathize with what you face everyday. When my one grandson was little, his mother would use puppets to play with him and encourage speech. Children with autism require much more patience and need more interaction with others than the typical child.

There is a website that may be of interest to you. It provides parents and caretakers with tools needed to care for their child. The site covers all age groups and those on the autism spectrum.
