Stopped Working

BadgersMoon profile image

I've been on various antidepressants since 1997. Most recently on Escitalopram which has worked fine for about 8 years. Recently however I had a nasty car accident and everything seems to have stopped working. I'm constantly anxious, can't think straight, want out of my relationship. Is there something else I should try for serious anxiety or just carry on as I am and hope it gets better?

Hi Badgersmoon.

Sorry to hear about how you are feeling. How awful to have been involved in a car accident 😞

I think it would be a good idea to have a chat with your dr to see what may be going on, I’m no medic but maybe you have some trauma related issues after the accident, and maybe therapy as well as looking at medication (a review of meds a good idea after 8years)would be beneficial to you. I’m not sure what country you are in , if it is uk , you can self refer to ‘talking therapies’ on the NHS in your area ,online, or your dr can refer you.

I hope you feel better soon.

Best wishes x

There's a 6 month waiting list for "counselling" in south Wales... I think I've gone beyond a little chat once a week for 6 weeks to be told I'm better now. :( I'm seeing the Primary Mental Health Team on Tuesday and will hopefully get some trauma counselling (going back to childhood!) and maybe investigate some other issues like autism and/or ADD. I'm going to ask about a meds review at the same time.

I'm so tired of all this...

Some interface with Secondary Mental health care may be beneficial to you, if you feel that is something you would look at. It's improving in my area all the time.

Best wishes for your mental and physical health.

Sorry to hear of your accident. I agree I would speak with your doc bc If its been working great, then maybe due to this trauma you’ve experience other measures could be included. I take escitalopram as well as cymbalta and I’ve had more relief (except the severe pmdd days, hence my post for help lol) than ive ever had. Hope you get better.

Hello BadgersMoon, We were sorry to hear about your car accident that must have shook you up and understandable that you are experiencing more anxiety issues. Please do not stop your medication without consulting your health professional and seeking their advise on the next step that you can take. Have you also considered counselling. This may also help to sort out your relationship issues and help you to recover from the anxiety. Best wishes to you and please let us know how you are getting on.

Hi ..

Hope that your meds will be reviewed and changed to something that can work better for you .

Propranolol is a very good medication for panic attacks and high anxiety. It can lower your blood pressure so be mindful of that .. but as meds go hardly any side effects .

Thsee tablets works well for my daughter and settle her .

Sertraline is a good one for depression /mood/anxiety .. this works really well for me and it's been the most affective ☺

Hope that you receive the guidance e and support that you require from your MH Team .

Happy to talk

Hi Aliska, thanks for your message x

It wasn't particularly helpful tbh, no indication that they'd be happy to change meds, an offer of a class-room-style seminar on "managing stress" and referral to counselling. My concerns about a possible spectrum disorder was dismissed out of hand because i have some friends. I'm not sure he understands the concept of high-functioning autism in older females at all. And I'm not even depressed, just "anxious". Sorry I sound angry, I am a bit. I really thought I might get somewhere this time. guess I was wrong.
