I don't know if anyone in UK has been following the new series of BBC Trust me I'm a doctor, but I just happened to turn on the TV on Wednesday evening and they were having a Mental Health Special programme. Here's their info about this episode and a link to BBC iplayer for anyone wherever you are in the world to download and watch. It made for very interesting and though provoking viewing.

'Michael Mosley runs an experiment to find the best way to beat stress - mindfulness, yoga or gardening. Psychiatrist Dr Alain Gregoire reveals how sleep affects mental health. GP Zoe Williams discovers why laughing can be as good as exercise for improving mood. Surgeon Gabriel Weston investigates a new cure for some patients with serious mental illness. And geneticist Giles Yeo asks if you can eat your way to happiness

I found the discussion of the auto-immune condition interesting but also very disappointing on many levels as there are other auto-immune conditions, such as pernicious anaemia and hashimotos that have depression listed amongst their many symptoms and are often undertreated - as if GPs really would be happier to dismiss mental health problems as purely mental in origin and refuse to entertain the possibility that they may be down to undertreatment or lack of treatment for another condition eg auto-immune gastritis or auto-immune thyroiditis.
