I'm very concerned and confused as to why I have quite a few mental health issues but still have a great life now and have no problems at this point in time. If anyone has answers please give me a clarification. Cheers.

Some people just have a low level of serotonin in their brain, not everything depends on the environment. Mental health issues can be like any other disease and you need medication to raise what is produced in low quantity in the body.

As Sunshine1968 rightly pointed out what goes on in your head is not 100% dependant on what's happening on events in your life.

Serotonin is the “feel good” brain chemical that allows communication between brain neurons and is the main mood stabilizer. It is that imbalance in serotonin can lead to mood disorders which require treatment.

Some people experience temporary clinical depression and take medications for up to 12 months.

For others, depression is a lifelong battle in which symptoms peak from time to time. In these cases, cognitive therapy and maintenance medication is the long-term option that helps manage symptoms and improve quality of life.

The key is to be aware of your symptoms and notify your doctor if

* you become aware of any symptoms that come back after you experience any form of remission

* you don’t think your current treatment plan is working.
