Hi everyone I'm knew to this, I was diagnosed with depression over a year ago and I just wondered how people cope when they'll feel like they can't? Do you feel selfish when your that low you feel like giving up x

Hello Amy and welcome to this very caring community. Sorry you are feeling so low at the moment. Do you have a health professional who is looking after you and have you spoken with them recently? Also there are lots of ways to help you and if you look to your right of the screen there are 'Pinned Posts' which can be very helpful, also our members are very supportive and interested in your well being. Take one small step at a time Amy, sometimes walking or doing something that you like can help to raise your mood even if it's only for a short while. Also try smiling at passer by, if they smile back it helps to raise your mood and will help them too:) Take care.

Thankyou I have spoken to health professionals and I recently had my medication increased but don't feel it's working :( I'm very good at making out I'm fine when I'm clearly not, a family member is going with me 2moro to the doctors and I think it's time to be completely honest. I'm glad iv found this group it's nice to read that I'm not alone and I'm not a freak x

Yes I feel very selfish. I suppose I just carry on somehow but very hard when I feel suicidal. Just want it all to end. I have been diagnosed but you don't have to be diagnosed to simply know your depressed. If you have a good family remember some have not so talk or just be with them. Try not to be alone or sit in your bedroom as that makes it worse. I'm 35 female and dealt with this for over 20yrs. At most I'm struggling. Got 2sons age 12 and 5 months and that is why I feel selfish which also puts more strain on me as I know they might suffer if they know and my partner is worried sick which again is more pressure on me. Do when you feel like you can't one of the best known things to do is be with loved ones, or keep your mind occupied. Easy for me to say as I'm past that but your not me so keep trying. Best of luck.xx

Thankyou I know exactly how u feel tho I seem to be good at giving advice but not taking it, I suffered when I was younger I tried to take my own life a number of times I'm 33 now and sometimes I think I'll never get rid of the ghost of depression that keeps haunting me. Please don't give up on urself or say ur past it to open up on here ur stronger than you may think. My youngest child is 7 and my oldest is 12 so for u to get up and keep going when ur youngest is only 5 months takes lots of guts and courage ur here now so u r fighting those thoughts and you are winning xx

Hi they hang on til things get better. They usually do over time. We all have times in our life when we don't know how we can carry on and the best thing for this is normality and routine. Concentrating on this and getting through the days somehow isn't easy but has to be done. x

Good morning Amy, welcome , it’s about finding out what works for you, there’s a lot of advice out there, and some helplines, do you know the Samaritans have a text service if you feel you can’t talk to someone, I found this great a couple of weeks ago, for me nature is wonderful, books, funny films, things that lift my mood, looking up also stimulates the brain, talk to GP, there are some local services, I saw an anxiety helpline in a local hospital, and when I rang it, it was local to that area, and they gave me the number fir my area, same service, different name, you are certainly not alone, good to get support from family and mates. T c x

Thankyou everyone so much for ur support, advice and kind words it really means a lot. I am lucky that I have got a supportive family although I may not always use it or feel it but now finding this group I know I'm not alone x

Hiya Amy, I think a lot of us are just muddling through each day and some days are good and some days are not. Of course, everyone is different and everyone's circumstances are unique to them, but there are some common things. Social interaction through work or otherwise with positive people always helps. If nothing else, it takes your mind off things. Medication may assist but sometimes it takes time to get the right medication and dose for you and for the beneficial effects to kick in. Depression can make you appear 'selfish' but you can't view that negatively because no-one chooses to be depressed. Try to be kind to yourself - you are definitely not alone. Take care,
