Well today was the first time I've admitted that I need help after suffering for about 3 years. I have self harmed and thought about suicide on a regular basis. But just saying the words I need help out loud have helped. I've got a long journey ahead of me and I hope I can make it. Not sure what the next step is but I'm sure I can I figure it out.

I think I can do this
Hello again ash789. You are very brave to admit that you now need help. Three years is a very long time for you to have suffered so much on your own without any help or intervention. But now that you have taken this first most important step, the second step by seeking medical advice will be a bit easier. Try and make an appointment to see your GP as soon as possible to go through the support you need and deserve. In time ,with perhaps medication and counselling you will feel stronger and better able to manage your low moods and depression. But it is important to get a proper diagnosis, so that the proper treatment you need to get better can begin. As you say ,you have a long journey ahead of you, but knowing that it takes time to recover from mental health illness is vital, so that you are not rushing to feel better straight away. Time, patience and support will all play an important role in helping you to start to feel better. Maybe you would like to keep a journal to write down your thoughts and feelings. A lot of people find this helpful and therapeutic. This way you might discover triggers to what makes you feel sad and what makes you feel happy. Keep posting on this forum as our members are very supportive and understanding and will want to help you through this difficult time. Take good care of yourself....... best wishes to you........
Well done ash789, it's great to hear somebody thinking so positively about their situation. "The longest journey starts with a single step"!
