Hi Everyone 😊

Is there anyone else who doesn't work due to mental illness?

If so, is there anything you guys do during the days?

They aren't very happy when you are home alone all day

Thanks, Taylor xxx

Yoga classes. Take my dog for a walk when i have the energy. Sometimes bake. A lot of the time, I buy useless things I don't need and decorate.

Hi,

If you contact your local council, there might be a community centre that you can visit.

There are some specialist community mental health services that run sessions to attend.

If you feel up to it, how about researching some volunteering opportunities.

Your doctor's reception team are quite knowledgeable about resources in your area.

If you reply and say where you are, the forum members could do better than general advice and nail down the name of organisations or arrange to meet over coffee if in the neighbourhood :)

Yes, for 20+years now. I had begun by attending local support groups. Recovery Inc. was the most effective. Then those I met at some groups formed a mall walking group. Then a period of depression set in. I kept a daily journal of meds and side effects.

The journals evolved into writings about how was feeling.

Then I began studying Meditation and finally had two books published.

Hope this helps.

I tend to draw and paint. Anything you want, even colouring in those books you can get, you can get lost for hours in them!

I don't go to work due to mental illness and Peripheral Neuropathy, and have been off work for 4 months.

I spend my time online in depression groups on facebook, and have one to ones with those who also suffer with depression. Made a number of friends that way.

Energy permitting I go food shopping sometimes to help my wife, and this time of year enjoying the sunshine in the garden.

Lucky you! Here the weather is terrible!

I am now a pensioner with Mental Health Problems and Chronic Disability. I also have a Short Term Memory disorder

I have always been able to find something to do, to be honest asking the question can be a little cheeky for some. My days are full and never boring I have just past my Power boat ticket and associated Offshore VHF Radio ticket. Plenty to do.

Do you have problems ?????

Thats a silly question to ask when im clearly in a mental health support group....

Hello Taylor Annne

Sorry, I did not see in what context you were asking a question, we do not wear a badge to explain treatment plans we are on.

You need to ask yourself what you want out of your life and try and go for it. I have not worked now for thirty years, I was suicidal and I eventually ended up in a Mental Health Day Centre where I became the Centre Information Officer. I was involved with Policy etc in a Mental Health Task Force and various other groups associated with the NHS

Generally I found that in my case if I was kept busy I was able to divert my Depression. I took on various hobbies and that diverted my mood. I was diagnosed with a Congenital Short Term Memory Disorder and was told how to use my mid term memory in place of my short term memory. I had also been to Pain Clinic and learned how to manage Pain Medications for my Chronic Disability, of over thirty years with associated depression

To prove I was able to cope I took Marine qualifications to sale Power Cruisers, I also had to pass my Marine Radio Course. I am on familiarization for the next two weeks with my Wife who also passed with me. I am nearly sixty seven

There is no reason why you cannot try to do something you have always wanted to do Activities do have a positive effect on depression or so it seems. Many people who are famous have Depression or Mental Illness, they do I suppose take wobblers although they do achieve

I hope I have answered your question

I dont work due to bpd cos it can make me aggressive therefore i cant work with other people, poor excuse but u only needs it to be once. Thats how i see it but there u go. It is boring at the moment im sleeping loads so that covers most of it. But im hoping to help young homeless women cos ive loads of experience having been there. So im hoping that pays off tho im afraid i loose interest when peeps need me. Words of hope

I'm hoping to get back to work soon but I havent worked for the past 3 months which has left a lot of time on my hands so I kinda have the same problem. I have a renewed interest in reading and I love going to the library so I highly recommend just taking your time to stroll through; read some magazines, check out some books etc. and plus there's a lot of great self help books. I go for walks when weather permits or you can find an indoor place to walk like a mall or Target or something. Hopefully you have friends or family nearby that you can visit to fill some of your time and get your mind off things. Maybe if there's a pool or hot tub near you you could do that, not to mention hot tubs are so relaxing. It's best to make a routine for yourself somehow so I dedicate certain days of the week for shopping, go to the library twice a week etc. I'm not a very crafty or artistic person but try looking in to that or doing some type of cool house project or something. Oh and adult coloring books I love those!

I have schizophrenia,depression & I don't work I claim esa I'm in support group.
