Welcome

You need to give this medication time to work, upwards five or six weeks. You will possibly need to see your GP in a months time to discus your medication, you will have a better idea then if the drug is working. The GP may increase or change the drug then.

Side effects are generally normal give time for side effects to abate

Thanks you for advice

Hi didn't your doctor warn you that you can feel worse before you start feeling better? This can take up to 6 weeks. If the side effects are unbearable then go back to your doctor and try another one. I tried 2 others before I found sertraline which works well for me.

Hi Luna,

I too am new to Sertraline (week 4).

The first two weeks were terrible with headaches, sickness and heightened anxiety, I am taking them for this very reason.

After being on Citalopram for four years and feeling no effects any longer I discussed a change in meds with my GP, thankfully he did mention that should I feel any worse on Sertraline that I should seek further medical attention.

In the med leaflet the side effects are very much what you would feel with anxiety or depression. My side effects were manageable and did subside.

Three weeks in I was feeling much calmer of an evening but waking up full of dread and anxiety.

My Sertraline has now been increased to 100mg. 50 in the morning and 50 in the evening. I'm feeling much, much better on this medication and dosage.

If you can manage the side effects it is worth giving it a try, but if you do start to feel out of control or wishing to harm yourself or others, seeking medical help ASAP is my advice.

Hope you feel better soon. 🙂
