Depression medication
It all depends on what type your on the dosage and reaction.some people don't have any reactions.but on the box it say symptoms of depression may get worse ie suicidal thoughts etc so talk to your daughter about her thoughts while on these they change the brain chemistry.they kick start the brain again to start firing and improve mood.vigilance over the next month as they usually take 2 weeks to improve mood.good luck
Thank you, Welly
Kkri be cautious if your daughter goes on anti depression tablets as they need weening off them are you in the UK.exercise and cbd oil also reishi mushrooms could help also magnesium supplements all depends on how bad she is and what the doctor recommends but all to quickly they put you on anti deps which does improve things but dosent address the issue direct they are like a sticking plaster I'm still on mine 3 years later just starting to ween off now.good luck as always be kind
Hi Kkri,Well done to you for getting help to support a loved member of your family.
Psychiatrist will prescribe whatever their knowledge & experience tells them after speaking to your son.
Meds take a while to work, roughly 4-6 weeks on average so there will be no quick changes.
Can I please say that medication 💊 alone cannot treat a person wholistically. You need to combine meds with some form of counselling, ideally with a mental health professional skilled in providing sessions for children and adolescents.
There are quite a few websites which talk about what to expect in the first appointments with a psychiatrist - worth researching if this is your first time dealing with a psychiatrist. Psychologists, counsellors etc use the same approach.
Wishing you and your son a safe and successful journey on the road to recovery. 🐈⬛
I can tell you that I haven't ever found an anti-depressant that works for me in over 50 years of searching. I've come to the conclusion that these types of medications are not the answer for me. With that being said, how does my input or anyone else's help you? You're evidently already aware that we are all different and respond differently. When you go to a psychiatrist they will take as little time as they can speaking with your child; learn very little about them, and then throw a dart at a dart board to decide which medication (maybe more than one) they should try. In my opinion psychiatrists don't really know what will or won't work, and they are clueless as to how some of these medications even work. It was thought for years that many of them work by way of increasing serotonin levels, but this has been largely debunked by medical experts. This of course is just my opinion, which in the larger scheme of things means nothing. I'm just one case out of millions. In any case I wish your child well, and I would agree with others that a better approach might be some type of therapy. That can be a whole different rabbit hole to go down.
Teens are too young to be put on psych meds. A good therapist, lots of love, understanding, validation and nurturing is best. Teens are difficult and being a teen is difficult. Medication is the first step towards a very difficult life. Good luck. PS. My life has been ruined by all these meds. And by week 4 she'll already be dependent. It's funny how it takes 4 weeks to see results and then you are dependent. Works out great for big pharma.
