Was feeling depressed since few weeks, prescribed Sertraline but feeling kind of awful.

Yesterday went to the doctor and was prescribed Sertraline (50mg) to take once a day. My pharmacist had also suggested to take it once and in the morning as it makes you restless - making it hard to fall asleep.

Well I had it today morning was ok - then I noticed that I got overly energised even my friends noticed. But, then towards the evening I don't know if it's related to sertraline but I've been shaky, feels as though I can't breath, a bit nauseas, when I yawn just feels as though my breath has stopped.

Getting kind of worried now as if I stop these tablets I won't be able to focus on my university assignments at all. Should I continue taking them for next days? If I'm still feeling the same way go to the doctors?

Hi aaa28mg

It's a really hard question for me to answer, as I'm not a medic! It can take a few days or even a few weeks for the medication to get into your system! I can't tell you to stop taking them or to keep taking them! All I can say is if you feel unsure that the tablets are for you, contact your Dr via a telephone consultation or visit or Chemist & tell them your symptoms & they sjould be able to advise them much better than I can!

As I think I said before, different people react different ways with medications for some they have negative reactions, others find that they need to let the body get used to the new pills over a few weeks to get the full effect and find out whether it's going to work for them!

I know other members on the site have taken this medication & have had varying results, hopefully they will give you the benefits of their experiences!

But if you're really unsure talk to your chemist or Dr!

Warm Wishes spykey 🤗

Hi, I took half a tablet for the first week then carried on with the 50mg. It worked for me. Try that and see how you feel. You can always ring your doctor for advice. It will make you feel a bit nauseous but it does wear off after a while .

Hi it took a good 4 weeks for me to get used to sertraline and the side effects were quite horrible at first but did pass. I also went all dizzy and off balance a lot. However my husband took these for over 8 weeks and didn't do well on them at all so just be aware that not everyone is suited to every medication. Give it a bit more time but if it's really unmanageable go back to your gp x
