Hello Bert, many of us on here have experienced depression, most ,what would be described as pretty deep depression so don't feel you are alone in experiencing this. If one is prone to any sort of depressive illness you don't need anything in particular to be depressed about as much depression has very little to do with circumstances. Its just a switch ,for want of a better word, in the mind which medical science is still a long way from understanding. It is hidden and it is exhausting. I believe there are some very rare people who can fight it without help but not many.

If you have n't already done so ,see your GP, be completely honest with them ,and keep your fingers crossed you have a good one and will get the best of the somewhat limited help available. Exercise ,maybe regular good long walks, regular and healthy sleeping habits will all help too, as will as much social contact as possible. None of these are easy when depressed.

I get fed up with writing this but your own inner courage and resolution will probably be your biggest helps until this depression passes as these spells inevitably do, when the switch in the mind, whatever it is , returns to undepressed and life is liveable ,maybe even enjoyable again. It will happen and until then just hang in there with the rest of us. We're all lucky in that there is a little more help available now than in the past , and unlucky that the medics have n't yet come up with anything like a full solution.

It will change,it always does, however impossible it seems at the moment. Currently i'm getting about 1 good day to maybe 10 ,probably more, bad days but I have no intention of letting my own mind (which is supposed to be on my side ,after all ) beat me. No f------- chance. You just hang in there . Mirtazapine I've always found as good as anything and aids sleep. It won't cure you but will help.

Even when you do everything right its still very tough but I'm sure it won't be tougher than you. One day the medics will match the many types of depression (probably as many as there are sufferers )to the many types of drugs and it will all get easier but at 73 I don't expect to see that day. So,what else can one do but hang in there ? Remember its all happening in that roundish thing between your shoulders. The outside world stays roughly the same and you know you can cope with that.
