I recently switched from mirtazipine to sertraline, I think now it was not a good move, the side effects from sertraline are beyond debilitating. Nausea , diarrhea and worse anxiety, is it worth starting over again on mirtazipine? I’m really struggling and have been out of work with the side effects..

hi, I was originally on it for 15 yrs, then stopped abruptly, off for 9 months. I was started on mirtazipine last September 2022, was increased in slow doses, long story short I was on 30mg and felt I did better on sertraline. I’ve been on it now 4 weeks at 50mg, I’m just really struggling with side effects which is making think to go back to mirtazipine!
Ya you really have to talk with your prescriber. I abruptly stop sert too for about the same amount of time, but when I got reensured and started taking it, it just wasn't working anymore, no major side efects, I had just formed a tolerance to it
hi, can I ask what dose you started mirtazipine on, I was up to 30mg for about a month and did not feel it did the same job as sertraline, i am just hoping sertraline works, these side effects from sertraline are just debilitating, my appetite has gone, I feel nauseous and am taking meds now for the nausea, I can see why so many stop taking sertraline within first month, I have lost so many days from work now, I’ve been there for only a short time, they will probably fire me at this point.
Hello Dawnyvo, what side effects did you experience from Sertraline?
I'm only asking because i've been bedridden with a condition called PoTS, severe anxiety and agoraphobia, but i've been reluctant to take any form of medication, until recently, my doctor wants me to start a course of Sertraline.
I've read a lot of things about this drug and not all of them are good, i've always preferred a more natural approach to taking any medication and don;t really want to start these.
hi, truthfully, this medication is one of the worst for side effects, it works well once you are adjusted to it, but first 2-4 weeks are rough, higher anxiety, nausea, loss of appetite. Loss of work, I’m just heading into my 4th week on it🙄
Thanks for your reply, I really don't want to start this drug, or any for that matter. My doctor says I have nothing to lose, but that's easy to say once you've gone home to your little flower garden in the country. My partner did pick up the prescription about 3 weeks ago, but they're still unopened in my drawer, I really don't want to take them.
I had sertraline before and the side effects where so painful, specially when I took the pill without water on with an empty stomach. I changed to fluoxetine with medical consent and personally I think it’s a lot better, although there are a lot of options. I would recommend you to talk with your psychiatrist
