Hi! I have been struggling with anxiety, depression, OCD, and PTSD symptoms since I was 14 and am now 23. I see a therapist and take medication. Here's why I'm typing this: I find comfort in horses. I ride and take care of them practically everyday. In about a week, I will be having surgery and won't be able to do any of these things for two weeks. Being aware that not being able to do what I love will make me feel pretty down and anxious, I am looking for coping mechanisms. In addition, this will be a setback because I ride a horse named Dawson and we will both be out of shape without me riding him. In top of this, I will be rusty with my skills after recovering. I plan to hang out at the barn as much as I can during this time, but any other suggestions are welcome.

Surgery
Would it help if you took a film or photographs of the horses you ride including Dawson. Could it also help if you get a family member to also take photographs movie etc of you on Dawson
If you are in hospital for any length of time would it also be beneficial if family could take photos or movie of horse and show the activities of Dawson on a near daily basis.
For example grooming, feeding etc to show all is ok
When you get home hopefully you can go down to your stables and be with Dawson, even if you are restricted in what activities you can do, it can be possible just being there will make you more accepting of any restrictions you will have to suffer.
Would it also help if someone could take your horse out and about as Dawson is going to get out of condition.
I know personally that how I would feel if I could not react with our PAX if I was not around for any extended period.
Good luck with your surgery two weeks will pass very quickly. Let us know how you get on

Thank you. I will definitely consider the films and photos
Two weeks will fly by and you will soon bounce back. Think of the things you have been putting off, like tack cleaning maybe, or any repairs you could organise to have done. Maybe you could let Dawson enjoy the holiday from work whilst you read up on competitions and fun rides you can do later in the season.
Thank you
I totally understand , i am in the same postion. I just had both knees and both ankle surgery. I love driving but i will have to be driven by my mum for d next 6weeks.
Thank you for your reply. Maybe you could drive a little in an open field or a parking lot. When you've somewhat recovered of course. Good luck with your recovery!
