Venlafaxine .....

Afternoon everyone, I was just wondering if anyone else has tried Venlafaxine 37.5mg. Ive been having problems with depression for a lot of years, it seem since I was a teen. I had to stop taking my citalipram which worked with me wonderfully, back in April 2013 when I was diagnosed with RA as they did not go to well with one of the treatment drugs. Since then my doctor and myself have tried some others but none really suited me. The last one mertazapine caused me to gain a stone in weight and made me feel pretty horrible, so I weened myself of those I went to see my GP yesterday and e prescribed Venlafaxine, I took it around 10pm yesterday evening and have been feeling none to good all day, sickness, stomach ache and tiredness, I have slept most of today (i needed the rest anyway), and still feel like I could sleep for England. Does anyone have an idea of how long these side effects will last and is it worth sticking out? Sorry if Ive waffled.

Hi there Nanny, I am on that but a much higher dose. Usually you start on

A low dose and go up to a higher dose. I had no side effects at all with it , but it

Takes a few weeks it get used to any new drug. Also that's the time most people

Experience unpleasant side effects. They will pass, it made me a little ,ore tired but

Not that I couldn't go to work or anything.

This Med is one with very few side effects so give it time, but I would be surprised

If you had side effects on that low dose.

So give it time first and see how it goes

Hi Deb

I have been on Venlafaxine for around 15 years and began on a dose of 150mg almost without any side effects. I take it in the morning and initially worked whilst taking it so had no tiredness. I have been up as high as 375mg and found that around the 300mg mark it began to make me feel rather numb to any emotion.

You have to remember that we are all individual and that what affects one may not affect another but I do think it is worth persevering for a month to six weeks to give it a chance to reach it's effective level.

I too have been on Mirtazepine for a while and, even at low doses, found it terrible.

Hope this info helps you make an informed decision.

Good luck,

Lorraine

Hi there I hear venlafaxine may be causing you problems I started off on 75mg then this was increased to 150 mg once a day the only time I had problems was when. I started it and when the dose was changed I'm now on 187.5 mg I would say that stick with it as I it can take sometime to work I would check with your gp as I was told taking it at night was the cause of me not sleeping during the night but sleeping most the day ! I had a sub arachnoid hemmorage last year that's one of the reasons I've had it increased because of my finding it hard to accept my limitations because of my Sah but everyone's different and I wish you well in recovering your health

Hi

I don't know about the specific med you are taking but all meds take time to work and meanwhile can have quite strong side effects especially if you have the remains of other meds still in your system which you may well have. You may have to allow time for things to settle and just take some time out from life, meanwhile if you are worried you might phone the NHS advice line, or GP or walk in centre to ask about the side effects to see whether what you are experiencing is unusual, if it is then I would see your GP straight away.

Thank you all for your replies and support. I really do need to stick it out as this is the only other option that will mix with my other meds, without causing other problems I have tried so many. I may try and take it during the day see if it changes anything my go has encouraged me to try a little longer, so that is what I will do. Thanks all again, its good to have other opinions :)
