Hello American

We can always feel depressed when we need too visit the big city, I live in the country now and I just need to go into my Market town and the noise just gets me down, so I am glad to get back to what I call normality. When I have to visit my old town where I used too live it is just that much worse again.

Today the cold air outside just gets into my bones so I sit in front of the fire and have not got the strength to go into the warmer conservatory, I am just hippy lazy I suppose even though at this time of year is the depression month when many family members seem to turn up there toes and travel to the big warm garden in the sky.

All I can say we do not really need to bee depressed there is so much out there to make us want to hibernate until the May Bank Holiday,

Now I look out the window and scratch what I am going to do in about two months time when the trees are clean green and all the wild flowers are out in the woods

Where I live in Northumberland, all the farms entrance are marked out with daffodils. Earlier we have our snowdrops out in the garden and they mark out our homes old boundaries, then when we go into town our way at this times are also marked with Crokus so I suppose I am seeing something that cheers me up, then I look forward for the Bluebell woods

Not every thing is negative, try looking for something more positive. If you look forward to something it can lift our spirits

Hi I know how you feel. Shopping can be very tiring. I actually hate shopping and never do it for more than a couple of hours. I find that the standing around and walking slowly lowers my blood sugar so I feel I have no energy.

Also, it's so damn busy! I find it stressful having to navigate my way around the crowds, I hate town areas at the weekends.

It could be the shopping that has made you depressed. Try always having something to eat on you, like a biscuit to keep your energy up. It's a fact that we use the same or more energy standing still as we do running! It drains our bodies and our mind so having a nibble at something can really help me on those dragging town days :).

This may seem a blatantly obvious question but did you buy any clothes etc? If so, how much did you buy? I promise, these questions are relevant to depression :) xx

I asked because buying clothes can be a high for some which is followed by a low. But you didn't buy anything. Do you always feel ok in the morning and then depressed in the afternoon?

Yeah I can relate to that. Sometimes I can lie in bed in the morning and think what's the point in anything. Buy other days I can jump out of bed and then just be affected later on. People can cause me to get depressed, all it takes is for me to take something to heart and I carry it with me and I feel down and useless the rest of the day and just want to hide away.

Depression can be easier to understand when you see a pattern in your moods but it's not that easy for you. I'm sorry for that.

But at least you have the "ups" as well. Some people suffer months of depression in a row and can't get out of bed for that long. At least your ups and downs come and go, that's something to think about. You were able to get out to the shops, some people get so bad they can't find the strength to get out of bed or shower and it creates a downward spiral. Sunlight and fresh air stimulate the brain to produce happy hormones so I'm glad you can get out the house for a while :).

Hi,

I also suffer from depression and like you I also become teary in the afternoon as well. I suppose once we have things done in the home we have time for our minds to wander. I began listening to audio books to keep my brain from thinking negative things. Plus it helped me so much as I had to listen and concentrate. It also I found lowered my pain levels as I was relaxing. You can download many books for free or visit your library. Just a thought. I was so unwell with pain in my hands and arms that I could not hold a book, knit or sew.

I do hope things become better for you. Feel free to contact me if you wish to just chat.
